Saints V Doncaster The Verdict
at 07:28:40

Poor & lacklustre? Probably the opinion of those with high expectations and some of our performances when everyone was firing on all 4 cylinders at the start of the season. But give me poor & lacklustre till the end of the season given that we secured another 3 points on the back of two consecutive tough away wins in the space of a week, another change in the starting lineup with Guly, Tadanari, and Richardson all missing. Just don't tell WHU and all the others that are getting further away in the chasing pack that we have been poor & lacklustre - they will all thing we're taking the pi$$ !! I think after we got the first goal on Saturday it was quite plain to see the pressure ease off the whole team and we looked a much more confident side from thereon. To be honest, we always looked solid and the midfield won many tackles but it was just lacking the final ball a lot of the time. I don't think it will go to the wire at this point, hopefully we will have secured an automatic place with a few games to go and it will just be a case of whether or not we can be Champions! COYR.

Why No Sharp ?
at 21:54:35

Nick, why do you write articles posing question and ignore nearly all the responses? You obviously can see why Sharp is not being selected but it is something only NA would be able to answer. We can all give our view on the subject and it would be good if we could reach a conclusion but you never come to one. instead you start another article and leave the last one in limbo.

And some of us would say that Billy Sharp's goal was actually an own goal and therefore hasn't even got off the mark.

Saints At Hull The Verdict

Excellent journalism!? Not when you single out players for ridicule.
Nick, whwnever the subject of Harding comes up, you bite like a pool full of pirhanas.
Let me say this; Danny Fox is a Nigel Adkins purchase of around £2m and by rights is the no.1 selection at left back. Dan Harding was a key player for us last year in our promotion from league 1 and justifiably earned himself a place in the League 1 team of 2011. There lay the reasons; Harding does not show the same quality as a Championship player but is a good back up for Fox's position. So why does that give Nick Illinsworth the right to single him out and to ridicule him? Therefore Nick, I am placing you in the same category of those people you have been criticising recently for berating Guly Do Prado. You are a hypocrite and no better.
When will you come to realise that other peoples' opinions matter as well as your own and are not to be disregarded because you know better? If it was not for them, then yours would be just a lonely voice?

Saints V Barnsley The Verdict
at 21:32:22

We weren't slow out of the traps against Ipswich and yet we didn't score when we were on top. There's only been a handful of games where we've ripped into teams from the off; Leeds & Boro at home and Ipswich away spring to mind. Several games we've struggled from the start and on a few occasions relied on a penalty to get us underway (Birmingham & Watford). We've only ripped into teams after going a couple of goals up. Guly didn't have a bad game on Saturday, it's just that people seem to focus on him at the moment and his work rate was actually quite good. I've counted just as many bad passes from the likes of Hooivelt and Fox who wanders in from the left far too often. Fonte seems clueless at times to what to do with the ball, he either passes back to Davis or punts a hopeful ball upfield to no-one in particular. He seems to be getting a little slow. We are a just a different team to what we were at the start of the season, and I put it down to a reliance on Lallana and Lambert. Chaplow has yet to get back to the form he showed earlier and with Cork having gone off the boil, a stronger midfield would have made a huge difference at this point in the season. Also NA should have persevered more with De Ridder. All that being said, we are doing well to win games at the moment and hopefully will be good enough to see it through.

Points among the top 6 will be dropped because many of them still have to play each other. West Ham still have to play Reading, Birmingham & Middlesboro for example.

Nick, In a nutshell we are good enough to beat any team home & away. It all depends on the attitude & the commitment of the players. If they have the belief, then I am confident they can do it.
I was surprised to see that Ben Reeves has gone on loan to the Daggers as I thought that he was one of our better youngsters that has proved himself capable of putting in a first team performance. I guess that now we have a near fully fit squad then he may have slipped down the pecking order.

Vital Midweek In The Championship

At least it keeps Blackpool further away from us. As someone else said on another post - 'How can you consider it lucky to be in the top two all season?' All that's happened is that we've allowed others to close the gap. We had a great start and it looks like we are regaining form. Let's look at the season as it pans out - not just 'two months'.

Away Form Will Be The Key
at 12:51:43

Sanguin: We really want West Ham to beat Blackpool although a draw would be ok because I think that would then leave Blackpool too much to when looking through the remaining fixtures, especually if we can grab a point or 3 off them. There are a lot of games where teams in the top 8 are playing each other, therefore points will obviously be dropped. West Ham and Birmingham look the strongest for the top two and could possibly obtain 90 points or more. Given a slip up along the way. I think that 88 points should secure 2nd spot.

Saints At West Ham The Verdict
at 12:37:10

Thought Jos was outstanding and always has been. Just like against Leicester he was the only one getting his foot in. Too few last night were prepared to roll their sleeves up. That said, I thought the sending off wasn't harsh as Taylor had Sharp by the throat. Puncheon played well when he came on, credit to him. We still seemed to get plenty off balls in the box just like against Burnly but a lot of the crosses were inaccurate. Nobody's mentioned that West Ham don't play again until Tuesday so a win against Derby on Saturday will send us back to the top! COYR!!

Saints At Millwall The Verdict
at 16:57:29

Why do you compare Fox & Harding with their number of assists? This is not their primary job. In assessing full backs the following is taken into account; Tackles won, clean sheets, and percentage pass completion. Now I haven't researched what the result of this is and maybe Fox comes out on top but you are barking up the wrong tree.

Puncheon Is Back
at 21:55:35

If Puncheon plays one game for Saints then he will be ineligible to play for another club this season so don't be surprised if Cortese plays him against Millwall. De Ridder is an asset and was actually brought in to replace Chamberlain even though he seems to be just an impact player. It all depends on how Puncheon is welcomed back by the fans.

Time To Be Positive !
at 10:26:03

Nick, I like reading your reports with interest and believe that you try to give a balanced and sensible opinion. But... although you mention the arrogance of some of our fans by their chanting, this report also shows some arrogance. You write as if you yourself have been a manager and are now some sort of manager's guru, telling everyone what a good manager is and what a good manager does and what is to be expected of good manager! Also I think that any fan will not need to be told what kind of support will be needed on Sunday but I reckon that 90+ minutes of total support is what they will receive. I felt truly sorry for Bart last Saturday and I wish that he had been given more chances in the past. Don't forget it was Ricki lamberts misplaced passed that led to Blackpool's first goal. No player should suffer abuse from their own fans especially during the game. I hope everyone is back on form for Sunday. COYR.
