Galbraith and Walta moved on swiftly amid rumours of neither really buying into the ‘team’ ethos.
From a pure football point of view, both looked strange decisions. Looking at the players, the manager, the staff and the fans after the game yesterday, you can start to join the dots. |

I thought this a couple of games ago, now I’m in two minds.
He’s the best ‘defender’ of the three of them. I don’t think he gets enough credit for throwing himself into blocks , putting the man and the ball out for a throw in etc. Never seems to get dominated by Kiefer Moore types.
But Matos’ ethos is moving the ball back to front quickly and purposefully. Having two ball playing centre backs who can start off and get involved with attacks makes that so much easier.
A much nicer problem to have than having to rely on two CBs all season like we had under previous owners. |

Eom coming back will be a good headache for Matos.
Until he went away, he was one of the first names on my team sheet. Last two games, Widdell has been one of our best players. He’s looked better on the left than central for me. Although even from there he pops up all over the pitch.
I think he’ll persist with Just, who has looked a lot better than either of them did in their first eight games for us. |

He had a poor game by his own standards yesterday.
Still the best left back in the Championship and an ever present in its tightest defence. He’ll probably end the season near the top of the chances created table.
Vital player for me. |

If they sack him, they are in the farcical situation of having to appoint a manager based on his reality tv potential almost as much as his managerial ability.
If they don’t threaten promotion or relegation, it’s arguably more important to them. |

Not for me.
There’s a big difference between a fullback and a winger who is good at protecting his fullback. Maybe in an emergency like Dyer at Forest (if I remember it right) but I can’t see him getting near Key or Lissah.
I’d say the same about Key being converted to a winger. |

Just seen the extended highlights. The save from Ramsey that he tipped onto the bar was fantastic. It was a rocket of a shot.
Also the ball from Stamenic to Ronald for Vipotniks goal hasn’t had enough credit. |

I’m directly opposite you and didn’t hear it either. Must have been very localised.
The commitment and the work rate has always been there with Ronald. Defensively, he’s our best winger.
I’m not convinced on him going forward, although he was a threat yesterday. Though going back to a recurring theme, in a team where both fullbacks are instructed to bomb on, having a winger who will dig in and do the dirty work on the bench probably isn’t a bad thing. |

Yes, Walta, along with Galbraith, was the player I was hinting at. Purely because in a football sense, signing him them loaning him out with an option to buy doesn’t make sense.
Inoussa I can understand more, as we have brought two wingers in plus Monga on loan. We haven’t really got the player Walta was built up to be.
Then again, he may just have watched Walta for a bit and made a football decision. |

I think Ronald almost comes away with more credit for that than if he’d scored himself. Vipotnik as well, busting a gut when he probably expected Ronald to shoot.
Plenty of times in the past he’s shot from much worse positions with teammates better placed. There is an obvious togetherness around this squad.
I have no inside knowledge at all, but the fact that we’ve moved certain players on with minimal fuss or fanfare alludes to Matos having no time for personalities that may disrupt. |

We will play more teams like Burnley than Southampton. They were a cut above and we were hands up beaten by a better team.
If we keep playing the way we have been, top eight is a very realistic proposition.
We need to get Vipotnik fully match fit, which isn’t easy when Idah deserves to be starting. We’d have two very different but very effective options up front then. I think Vipotnik is a better bet against teams like Wrexham and Sheffield United, while Idah is the man in the more open games. Hopefully Slovenia can do us a favour in the international break. |
