Remember going to watch Geno Washington at Pompey Guildhall.
He fell through, for whatever over indulgent reason, and was replaced as top billing by a certain Jimi Hendrix. That was an interesting consolation. |

The only time I tried skating was at the Eden Project with the kids. Slipped and came down hard on my pelvis whilst simultanously getting a shiner from the boot/skate of a girl who was whizzing along behind me . Spent the rest of the session in the first aid room.
The Top Rank was much more fun. Stand out tunes that stick in your head were Stoned Love by the Supremes, Sugar Sugar and You Ready Now, classic ear worms that still afflict me to this day.
Good thing about the Top Rank was that you could only get in wearing a jacket which excluded all the scruffs, tramps and various hoi polio.
Also there were plenty of dark unused cloakrooms and spaces where you could take young ladies who didn't mind you interfering with their underwear.
Joyful, youthful irresponsibility. |

There is a profound feeling of relief that the general malaise has lifted surrounding everything that Sport Republic were doing . All the shockingly bad appointments and decisions made have mostly been forgotten about.
The end season shenanigans have been the only downside to the last 12 months.
The fans have been very patient and loyal and are being rewarded by good performances and results.
I agree, this is down to good management and coaching, the Tonda Effect. |

As a 10 year old I would jump off the 10m diving board shouting Geronimo. My mum was terrified.
I remember a famous diver called Brian Phelps who used to practise there. I think he may have been an Olympian. He performed some impressive routines off the high board and the 3m high springboard. He would adjust the springiness with the foot wheel and would get arsey if anyone tampered with it after he had set it. He was a bit full of himself but I guess I was just a little twerp. |

There have been many good rugby league players who have come out of that city, even though it's always been football fanatical.
Rugby league is massive in Australia and New Zealand, well supported and funded. |
