I still find it amazing so many folk, managers included are still so obsession with the whole possession based football, even more so at our level in the pyramid, I remember many a time we've had so much of the ball and done exactly zero with it, a recent example was Crewe away for all the ball and all the possession we went in 2.0 down at half time,
Call me old fashioned but the sooner we get back to a keeper who's primary skill is stopping the ball going in our net and a defender who makes life impossible for the opposition to score the better, rather than trying to ask a keeper to play like a prime Maldini from the back, theres obvious exceptions to the above like Watmuff who to be fair was levels above the National league anyway.
Currently the side is ridiculous easy to score against and offers next to absolutely zero upfront and gets run over in midfield, however any manager chooses to play thats only ever going to end one way. [Post edited 1 Nov 16:12]

Whatever 'process' we choose or even what the manager opts for id say the prerequisite for any football manager is to be hard to beat, before you even look to be expansive or possession based its pretty irrelevant if you're shipping 9 goals in 2 games into your own net, not sure luck has much to do with it either, especially over a season or even just 10 games that always levels out either way. |

While folk do react to things differently granted, some of the things on show this season regardless of opinions on formation,tactics, injuries, playing out from the back etc have been absolutely atrocious while the managers decision making has at best been massively confusing in reality absolutely terrible.
You seem to very much try and play things down especially after heavy defeats even though its blatantly obvious what we've all just witnessed and are still witnessing far far too frequently, equally I dont think we will be winning the league anytime soon after scraping a couple of close victories either though, is there a reason why you're so against calling things out for being as shite as they so clearly are? |

A very good and perfectly accurate post, yet there's still some on here it seems try and defend the completely indefensible, the most alarming point even when we did win a couple of games was how many chances the opposition missed in the process, the writing was pretty much on the wall back then that whatever IW choice of football may be it certainly didnt involve a solid base and some of his choices of subs and more so the starting 11 are baffling at best regardless of the injury list. |

The master tactician would ideally wait until the games already lost then throw on Hendo, you wouldn't want to start the clubs record all time goal scorer then maybe take him off when he indicates he's blowing, he's professional enough to know and accept his limitations as/when he needs to be replaced.... i know it sounds bizarre |

Doesnt Smith primarily play on the right though, Smith/Hayes on one side and Middleton/Duberry on the left kind of makes sense signings options wise |

Id probably say Accrington play an expansive style, we had 1 shot on target in 90+ mins, seems it's that expansive it only appears once every few games...... the trick seems to be wait to concede then realise its blatantly not working then react and change, or better still wait to the 4th goal whistles in then think of possibly changing things around |

Similarly with Hendo too start him and see how long he lasts, we look absolutely void of anything up front for any decent spells during games, the first half at Crewe showed some decent forward play but again no end product with just Brown to aim at in the box.
Not sure how anyone could possibly describe 'Watsons way' as expansive football, jesus wept today was too predictable, slow paced, with a side order of too many sideways and backwards passing offering less than zero up front, if thats expansive give me the complete opposite every week please. |

Pretty sure IW has a bit more control of things and accountability im afraid, id love to hear his thoughts why he didnt bother making any changes after half time probably even earlier on when it was clear as day after 15 mins we were clearly second best all over the pitch, still not to worry Dale managed to make a team without an away win since FEBRUARY look like PSG but we did a good job doing similar with Grimsby too midweek.
Its glaringly obvious we have next to zero up front how we currently set up yet things noticeably change usually when Hendo inevitably enters the field, sadly thats generally chasing the game by that point though. |

Not sure what their gaffer is talking about as deluded as he is that Hayes goal was a fluke and it just 'hit him on the head' he's clearly read the ball towards goal and directed it in, dont mind a bit of Flint giving it them either after getting stick. Ball is still a massive vvanker 👍 |
