I’ve seen this before. There’s something about being a QPR supporter, essentially schooled in adversity, we’re quite unsure how to handle comprehensive wins with a superior side.
One down, 2-1 win, that we can thrive on. It’s just the bit, those rare times, when we step on the pitch with a side good enough that we expect to win and not only that, they go out and show they’re good enough to do it.
I’ve noticed, when the roofs about to fall in, the crowds go up.
Was in a box many years ago, we were in Division 1 or the Premier League, I can’t remember, and at the end we got to go on the pitch and have a shot or two at the away end. We used to win games for fun at that time. Yet I remember, as I looked up above the goal, the scoreboard said ‘crowd today, ten thousand and something, thank you for your attendance’. That’s something that’s always stuck with me, like it’s defined where we really wanted to be, as if we weren’t entirely comfortable with raging success.
If this all goes pear shaped, the club don’t need to worry, we’ll be there. If we are to become successful, bare with us, we’ll all get there eventually. |

On target for 78 points, 70 will get us top eight.
They’ll be a nasty defeat somewhere, probably quite soon, it’s imperative these players set it aside when it happens.
If we keep doing the stuff we’re doing will get that 70 points, if we get a spark up front anything could happen. |

Think perhaps that playing three across the middle means your defenders can spend more time defending and your attackers attacking.
That big hole between full back and winger doesn’t seem such a big hole anymore. Noticed midfielders are now doubling up with the full back too. It just makes us look more compact. |

I’ve adapted the Harold Lloyd signature tune for Alfie and been singing it along to myself watching replays of last nights highlights. It really works for his ‘assist’ to Harvey Vales goal, especially the close up of his control, loss of control, and subsequent unintended tripping up of his opponent.
He is a joy to watch.
Lovely clinical finish for his goal too.

Indeed. Three across the middle does change the widemen thought process, it means they can concentrate on attacking whilst the defensive side, still needed, but not to the detriment of their forward play.

Funny you say that, we were saying he’ll have to make substitutions around the hour as per the norm in modern day football, but was thinking it’s a shame we need to because the starting eleven performed as a complete unit, much like at West Ham.
It’s good to see, used to be like that in the 70’s side, total trust in what was going on out there.
These days unfortunately, it’s not about having one John Delve on the bench, you need to have five of the buggers! |

Rather than looking for a foul he’s now concentrating on running at teams and getting properly fouled. Gets kicked all over the place anyway, might as well it happens in the penalty box now rather than the half way line.
Bit of a Micky Leach in some ways. Any faults become exaggerated in a poor side, in a good side you see his qualities. |

Birmingham and Saints very tough away games, Swansea seem to come alive in short bursts and their wings to forward play is top quality.

Both did a job well.
I might need to have a rethink about what’s going on, but once again, despite scoring four goals, I’m struggling to remember the widemen getting a single pass in a goalscoring position to the CF, that’s despite Smyth having another excellent game.
A brilliant pass from Edwards undoubtedly, but would it have worked with any of our CF’s. Poku made the kind of run I’ve been crying out for him to do but never does, it was a shame it went wide, but his run and control was exactly what a CF should be looking to do and they don’t.
On the other hand, that Poku cross, when completely free, three Rangers running in against three Derby, straight into the keepers hands must have the forwards wondering why bother.
Something we need to sort out, even after a 4-1 thrashing. |

Good professional performance throughout, which is what’s needed against niggly bastards like that lot, left their foot in late on so many tackles.
Am concerned about this pitch, Mbengue another one to fall victim. Know it can happen to anyone but it happens a lot here, particularly since the relaying of it. |

Everything in this report suggests the regulator needs to step in hard and make the changes but I suspect his tough stance will just turn out to be rhetoric.
It does also state the single biggest problem is player wages.
The tv pie should be spread more evenly across the four divisions, maybe 40/30/20/10% to close the gap but maybe link efl contributions to infrastructure spend. Taking our league, maybe allocate half of the above 30% between the 24 clubs, but the other half allocated purely based on your infrastructure spend. That would force clubs like ours to upgrade or build new stadiums otherwise they lose out and the remaining half gets distributed to clubs who do bother to improve facilities.
In the long run, it’ll encourage clubs to create a better ground with more seats and a subsequent rise in overall income.
We have been the antithesis of a well run club for best part of 40 years and we’ve seen the price we, as supporters, pay for this neglect. |

Crikey, didn’t realise that. Four forwards, only one has scored, in one game out of nine.
Incidentally, neither of those goals came from wing play, one self taken and one through the middle. There does seem a real disconnect between the front man and wide men.

Kamara is very good. So good my shoulders relax when he’s on the ball, bringing a temporary halt to all the headless chicken stuff that frequents the Championship.
That was the best 3/4 of a game I’ve seen us play in a very long time.
I’d give Kolli another run out against Derby, let’s see what he’s made of. |

Oxford Gardens, Yo!
Wasn’t aware Vince Power was involved at the KPH, prior to that it was largely known as a place to go for a pint and a fight, hence it’s moniker locally, the GBH. Had a company situated in Harlesden high street back in the 80’s, we were roughly opposite the Mean Fiddler. At the time some of the locals were trying on what you might refer to as a protection racket. It never got off the ground and the said entrepreneur at the Fiddler was part instrumental in that, swinging the biggest chain I’d ever seen round and round his head as he saw off a few of the protagonists. The old bill stepped in after that.
Loved the Ladbroke Grove area. Remember as a kid from the more central part of it, that you got as far as the cowshed in Barlby Road and studiously avoided turning left into bandit country. A mate moved from our part to their part and found once their locals knew you, the pubs were a good place to go. Shame so many pubs gone that end, still venture up there occasionally, largely the more gentrified end, Elgin to Mitre, these days.
Regards the demise of the racecourse, when he said the gentry didn’t like mixing with the locals, think he might have meant, they didn’t like getting robbed by the locals!
If I had a Time Machine, I’d love to go back 200 years and see what it was like around there. |
