Shouldn’t be anywhere near first team yet |

Ain’t that the truth. Is someone with his career history the answer I fear not. Not knowing the goalie possession rule is almost unbelievable on both him and the club for not ensuring he knew it. Almost anyone will look more commanding than Nardi in controlling his box but I think people are going overboard on how well he played. To me shows just how far short the previous keepers have been this season. |

We’ll agree to disagree on Varane - In my opinion he doesn’t try to run forward enough with the ball, he’s not strong enough on it and you can count on one hand the number of killer balls he plays. I certainly didn’t think he had a good game because not one of them did. He has not progressed this season but it’s football - we all have different views on what is a good performance and I still need to be convinced that he is the answer. |

Loads of one touch possession football sideways and backwards - only one good final ball - which led to the goal. Varane seems reluctant to pass forward or is incapable of doing so. Madsen though playing better doesn’t do enough still. Extremely poor first half - poor defending for both goals even allowing for the finish for the second goal. Playing out from back far too much putting extra pressure on Nardi that he doesn’t need. Oh to have had Ronnie Edwards today - May not be the complete answer but he would have made a big difference. Agree with your assessment of his performance Interestingly one thing not given too much press on our improved form has been the introduction of a solid defensive left back. Norrington-Davies has played his part nothing spectacular going forward but sound and Field was as solid last night. With Chair, Smyth,Dembele,Saito , Vale and Poku we’re not short of players that can do the attacking part on the left hand side - or the right for that matter. |

Years ago it used to be one of the main differences between our keepers and the foreign ones. The likes of Shilton,Clemence, Corrigan, Parkes and our own David Seaman used to catch the ball - unfortunately the standard has generally dropped and now no one seems capable of catching it. |

Did for 20 odd years- VAR was as I understand it brought in to help correct a clear and obvious error or a serious missed incident. In my opinion some operating the system are going far beyond that remit and there lies the problem |

Put simply Frey puts it about more than Burrell who is more about pace. |

Agree with points 1 and 2 - Mbengue gives you pace and is not weak in the tackle would have played him with Morrison. Think he used Frey over Burrell and Kolli because of the physicality of the Millwall defence. The midfield needed strengthening and Field or Hayden should have come on earlier Varane was ineffective and unfortunately so was Vale. He has some thinking to do now we are nearly up to strength over who he wants to play but unlike previous seasons it’s a good one to have. |

It’s not the VAR technology that’s at fault it’s how it’s implemented. Too many times those charged with its involvement interfere when not necessary and then the referee on the field doesn’t have the courage to stand by their original decision. Unfortunately unlike the system used in cricket still depends on the interpretation of those operating it and there lies the problem. |
 | Forum Reply | Madsen and Varane at 14:50 19 Oct 2025
I agree - was clearly off the pace for most of the game perhaps understand why Hayden was not called upon after his international duty but Field has not become a bad player overnight and would have been much stronger in the second half. |
 | Forum Reply | The Harvey Vale Conundrum at 14:46 19 Oct 2025
Early days yet - thought his final ball yesterday let him down. No shortage of options at moment Chair, Dembele - did well when he came on yesterday, Saito and Poku. On paper a bag of riches , can’t remember the last time we looked so strong, personally think yesterday Fields strength in midfield would have helped him and team generally. Varane was off pace and as much as Madsen has improved still needed someone to relish a tackle and Field does. You don’t become a bad player overnight and you need to win the right to play and in the second half we didn’t until too near the end. |

Agree with you not Nardi’s ball - Cook should have done better with the long ball -and the second just fell perfect for the striker following Varanes header. Madsen and Varane not the same in the second half allowing Millwall’s midfield to take over. Thought Vale was ineffective today especially his final ball and our crossing was woeful Have seen us play a lot worse and get all three points just wasn’t our day. |

You are right in saying that Kelman wasnt fit to lace his boots but Allen was a true goalscorer. Jimmy Greaves wasn’t fast or tall neither was Denis Law but they could finish and so could Allen. In my opinion all three would rightly cost a fortune in todays market. |

All defences need a keeper that will come and dominate crosses into the box - unfortunately neither of the two can do that. There is also no dominant centre back either to help them out which puts even more pressure on the keeper. ‘Paid off immensely” is not something I can agree with - I do not think Walsh is experienced enough and certainly hasn’t played regularly at this stage in his career - as has been said a loan season would have helped him but that ship has sailed. May not be a view many share but I think we should have tried to sign another keeper. |
