When Neil Redfearn signed for Dale, he was
certainly a player who needed no introduction to Dale supporters. Indeed,
if we attempted to summarise his career before coming to Dale, we'd be
talking about his thirteen different clubs over several chapters. Needless
to say, he had played in all four divisions, and was Boston's top scorer
when he left the York Street side club to come to Spotland.
He was brought in by Dale boss Parkin to
add a bit of leadership and experience to the Dale side, as we battled
against relegation in the final few weeks. It would not be unfair to say
that his performances weren't quite the sort of displays that he used to
show in the Premiership, and the 39 years had certainly started taking its
toll, but the experience brought into the side was just enough to see that
Dale secured their place within the Football League.
Despite signing for Dale in March, he was still Boston's top scorer at the
end of the season with seven goals.
