Paterson ultimatum on his new contract ** Exclusive
Thursday, 4th Jul 2024 13:33 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

Jamie Paterson is out of contract at Swansea City and despite him attending the first day of training he wouldn’t have liked the news he received on his new contract offer. It’s been on the table now for some weeks, but Jamie hasn’t responded positively. In an exclusive we reveal why.

Currently back in Coventry, Paterson now knows his future at Swansea. Edit : (Sourced 1-7-2024)

We have been told that Swansea are now in the final planning stages of their Austrian tour. The first issue with Paterson is he isn’t an official Swans player. His contract is out and the insurance implications for him to keep Swansea waiting just don’t work. We now know that Jamie is aware that you cant come to Austria as a non contracted player. ’We have to take people with us who want to be with us’ and who form a part of head coach, Luke Williams plans, which after the training camp see’s the new season almost upon us.

If Jamie travelled there are insurance implications should he get injured, plus the club would be paying out for his travel, accommodation when he isn’t in the squad or registered to Swansea City. Luke Williams wants his squad assembled as best as possible just a few weeks before the big kick off. Now, you would expect Jamie to have made his mind up. His contract offer we believe is in and around twenty eight thousand pounds a month, and for a year only. However the likes of Joe Allen and Kyle Naughton have signed contracts with the option to talk at the end of next season.

We have seen contractual issues from Jamie when Russell Martin was at the club. Martin stood solidly alongside the player even in press gatherings with Jamie in attendance. This again was about the contract he was offered at the time, that settled down when the club stated they would review his circumstances IF he returned to playing for Swansea City. He did and now some two years later Jamie finds himself in another decision making situation that seemingly is hard for him to make.

Luke Williams has told Jamie already, and this back around three weeks ago, “He has got a few different things to weigh up and he has earned that,” The Swans hierarchy supported that decision by Luke but they cannot wait with plans in the making to bring in a suitable replacement. The statement from Luke had a warning as to the timeframe for Jamie, “ It won’t be there indefinitely because potentially players will arrive at the club and the landscape will change,” Williams said.
“But Pato knows exactly what he is doing and we are happy with everything at the moment”

Swansea City have a really good track record when looking after their players, Jamie has been given flexibility to ensure he gets what he wants for potentially the last two years of his career. Przemyslaw Placheta, who had a horrible injury last season has received rehabilitation care as he recovers. Luke Williams stating that despite Placheta being released from the club there is an obligation to ensure he is fit and well as the injury came about playing for the Swans. He has also now made it clear the door for a new contract remains open despite his current circumstances. That announcement came at the same time as the initial Paterson comments by the head coach.

A warning maybe ?

We do know that his agent is working hard to secure him a deal elsewhere, but as it stands nothing concrete is known. Jamie can be a match winner on his day, he can most certainly change games, but he is thirty three in December so there has to be a realistic decision making process. That for Jamie can be difficult at times, a prized player on his day but how many days does he have left ?

The offer is too much in my view. The high powered recruitment team needs funds to find jewels in Asia a or South America who would be delighted with that money.
