Which grounds that are no longer used or not standing do you wish you could still visit. forget the results. Mine are Nene Park , the Old Showground , The Mc Cain Stadium , and Maine Road.

The Shay, before it was redeveloped.
Standing on that slope at the Skircoat Road end played hell with your legs, especially if the football was dire.

I don't mean 'if'. I mean 'as'.

Permanent smell of frying onions as well.

Gay Meadow, great away day right in the town, loads of good pubs. Proper old ground with character replaced by the soulless New Meadow out of town crap.

I only went once, but the walk down the ginnel to Darlington's old ground was a "who would a thought it" moment for me. An away win with a weak team added to the memory as well.

Gay Meadow.

That time we played them first game of the season in the sun, Holty scored the only goal, what a day that was.

Tangled up in blue.

Saltergate. Especially when the away end extended round the corner.

Always a good place to visit was Gay Meadow. Along with Feethams, The Shay, Vetch Field, Plough Lane, Leeds Road Huddersfield.

Soon we'll be talking about Giggle Lane in the same way !!

Agree with some of the others with gay meadow a proper ground compared to their new soulless stadium

Best ever away rugby ground by a country mile. Used to love it. Always seemed to get thrashed, but a cracking day out. I think my last trip there was mid-70's when Hornets loose forward (Alan Robinson ? ) broke his leg.

Featherstone were a terrific team in those days. Les Tonks, Mel Mason, Harold Box, John Newlove to name but a few.............

A great day out, apart from the result, you are right about Alan Robinson, was at that game, it was a cup tie. He was never the same player afterwards.

We won last time we played there in the league, tbf. Steve Whitehall with a third minute penalty. And as 442 says, it was darned freezing!!

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Remember getting soaked at Hull once as everyone tried to shelter under the one yard overhang of the supermarket.

Thought of another old ground where sub zero temperatures were experienced : Burnden Park for an LDV game in December '91. The pitch was frozen solid and the away terrace was so cold you couldn't touch the crush barriers.
