With one game left to play in this calendar year does anyone (TVOS) know how many points we've amassed in 2016?

Hill in his interview said we’ve amassed 78 points in the last 46 games

My calculations are 77 points in 2016 so far - 38 Jan-End of season

39 so far this

Sorry, Clivert, been out most of the day, so I've only just seen the board.

As luck would have it, I do have a spreadsheet of our annual points tallies. As with all stats, they need to be analysed in context, so it's worth bearing in mind that some years - 1969, 2010 & 2014 - were promotion years and include points from the basement division.

Also, three points for a win started in the 1981/82 season, so seasons from then onwards are based on a different points system.

Bearing all this in mind, looking at the percentage of available points we have won is a good way to compare the years. Here are the top 10 seasons:

1st - 1926 - 72.1% of the available points (62/86)
2nd - 1924 - 70% (56/80)
3rd - 1969 - 68.1% (64/94)*
4th - 1927 - 65.4% (51/78)
5th - 1947 - 61.3% (49/80)
6th - 2007 - 60.2% (74/123)**
7th - 1949 - 60% (54/90)
8th - 2009 - 59.7% (86/144)**
9th - 1925 - 59.3% (51/86)
10th - 1962 - 58.9% (53/90)

As regards 2016, we are currently on 77 points out of a maximum 138 (55.8%), which is our best return in a calendar year spent entirely in the third of four different tiers.

However, to bring a bit of reverse tweakage to these stats, our WORST ten calendar years are:

1st - 1986 - 26.5% (35/132)**
2nd - 1977 - 26.9% (28/104)
3rd - 1978 - 27.9% (24/86)
4th - 1932 - 28.6% (24/84)
5th - 1931 - 30.5% (25/82)
5th - 1933 - 30.5% (25/82)
7th - 1934 - 31% (26/84)
8th - 1984 - 32.6% (44/135)**
9th - 1983 - 32.6% (45/138)**
10th - 1952 - 33.3% (31/94)

* two different divisions
** three points for a win

Where does 2008 rank? Thought it'd be quite good as we ended the Wembley season well and were in the playoff zone by around this time the following season.

Have seen 2 of the good years and 3 of the bad - which fell in a four year period!

In 2008 we got 83 points out of 144, a return of 57.6%.

That year would be 11th in the list.

Where does 1974 feature, TVOS?

Started with our horrendous demise in the old 3rd division, and don't think we pulled up any trees in the first half of the following season

33 points out of 78 (33.7%).

It would have been 13th on the list, with 1966 & 2006 (33.3%) in joint 11th place.

Cheers

Don't recall 2006 being anywhere near as bad - but it was worse!

Might have something to do with the change to three points for a win, although we drew 17 league games in both years, so maybe not!
