Hill and loans 23:56 - Sep 26 with 14256 viewsShun

Following on from the other thread about Hill's loans, if you could make a team made up of purely players who Hill had on loan, who would make the cut? I've made 2 teams, the former excluding any players who were on loan yet at some point played for us permanently. I'm sure I've missed a few obvious ones!

Heaton
Lomax Cansdell-Sherriff O'Connell ?
Whaley Basham Taylor Atkinson
Howe Rhodes

Heaton
Lomax Dawson O'Connell TK
Grant Taylor Atkinson
COG Alfie Murray*

*I'm including Murray as even though Parkin signed him on loan, he was still on loan for a few days after Hill became manager before signing his permanent contract.

Struggled with right-back so I've gone for the almost anonymous Kelvin Lomax. Struggling to find a left-back in the first team too.

No.

Are you thinking of Cansdell-Sherriff?

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Could include Andrew Tutte, signed him on loan in 2010 and was a decent player at times

Can only think of 1 left back
Tom Newey - signed on loan (from Rotherham?) for the last month of 2008-2009 season, played once or twice only.

Poll: Now the club has refused to move on sesaon ticket prices what will you now do?

Pretty sure Eyre was the one who signed him on loan, too.

(EDIT: I was wrong, Tutte was indeed on loan for Hill but signed permanently by Eyre)

Totally forgot about him and only from last season.
Probably says more about the impact he made than anything else.

I see he's been released by Stoke and now in National league North with Kidderminster. Just shows you how the Prem clubs stockpile these kids in the hope that 1 or 2 are good enough.

Wasn't he receiving rave reviews at Stoke though?

Maybe it took the reality of professional first team football to kick in at Dale, and for whatever reason he couldn't cope

Its really concerning that out of scores of academy kids in the premiership only a relative small percentage must make a living out of pro football.

Although we've enjoyed more success than most as a percentage of academy players progressing to first team and professional football there are still plenty of kids that dont make it.

Cruel business but the rewards are great. Must be a parents nightmare.

Was talking to him at one game and asked him why Hilly wasn't playing him. All he said was , that's what I want to know.

Also Reuben Reid - very early into Hill's first reign. I wonder what went on there? Certainly something happened for him to get fired off.

This from Wiki.

'before going out on loan for the rest of the 2006—07 season to Rochdale on 25 January 2007. However, Rochdale ended his loan after a month, with Plymouth manager Ian Holloway reported as saying "They did not want him there any more. It is internal and I deal with it".Reid was suspended by Holloway for two weeks on his return to Plymouth.'

Was quite well reported at the time. He’d been openly critical of the training of Hill and Flicker. They sent him back. He turned up at Plymouth on the Monday only for Holloway to refuse to deal with him without his Dad present so he had to go all the way back to Manc to get his dad.

Not 100% sure if he was on loan or not, but Stephen Turnbull is surely worth a mention, just for a laugh.
