Used to be called the Sandman back in the day but had other names in the past, can anyone remember?

That pub in the estate, The Dunes, that’s like a lunatic asylum with live bands!

Went to a funeral years ago and went back to The Amazon afterwards where two blokes started having an arguement over who had the biggest bollox.

Picture the scene. There they both are sitting on the bar with their kecks around their ankles and another fella kneeling on the floor with a tape measure.

The door opens and the vicar walks in.

Didn't they have a Beer kellar behind the old shows at one time too.

As for the Sandman I only went once and was involved in full on fight on the dance floor and another on the bus home after.

The four 7’s in Maesteg was a place to behold 😳

The Starlight in Sandfields was another place where you weren’t made to feel very welcome by the locals as well.

Loved the 7777s in the eighties.

Used to play in a rock band there regular on a Friday night.

Good times.

Some of the pubs on Commercial Street were a laugh years ago as well. The King Alf and The Sawyers Arms are the names popping up in my mind.

King Alf just reopened.

The Sawyers Arms is now a Witherspoons.

You should have tried the old Viv pub, by beach hill.

Remember the old glass bottles of cider you could get in pubs? One of those missed my head by about 10mm after being in the bar for approximately 45 seconds. They loved Jacks in that place

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

In the mid/late 60's stop tap was 10pm on a Sunday, a few of us teenage boys used to go to the Dunes about 9-30 and sit on the little wall opposite and wait for the action to begin,we were never disappointed, like the wild west.
As a sandfields boy i can confidently state that the Dunes was/is the roughest pub by a mile.
The Sandman was tidy when it first opened,it was managed by "Uncle Bryn Thomas, who also ran the Carlton nightclub in town.
The Troubador was the place for bands,Annie Lennox and Dave Steward played there but not as the Eurtyhmics, Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols,Flock of Seagulls, and the Pretenders also played there.
I was in the Troubador a couple of months ago, it still has everything in place, optics behind the intact bar, beer mats on tables,as if frozen in time,it's used to store the shopping centre's christmas decorations these days.

My band played The Bird in Hand a few years back. Great crowd up there. Was there a biker connection? Something tells me there was.

I’ve been in there a few times over the years with boys from work, in the Ninian Bar no less!

Dog rough. The final time I was there was on a tea time, midweek. I got my pint from the bar and within about two minutes this hideous old crone came over trying to sell me Valium.

The only " Eddie Edwards " i can remember is Andrew "Eddie " Edwards, who used to have a double glazing firm, and was once chairman of Port Talbot AFC.
I spent a lot of time in the Ferry, rugby club on a Friday night, White Lion and the Ship were regular haunts, those pubs were like "Disneyland" compared to the Dunes,Amazon, etc.
I married a Ferry girl as it happens.
