transfers on 15:31 - Jan 7 with 2700 views | DylanP | Given how minimal the contribution of Sykes and Bonne has been, it is hard to imagine how Murray could be anything other than an upgrade, even if he is slowing down. I think our current two strikers have maybe two goals fro open play, both tap ins.

They actually have three! And to be fair, none were 'tap-ins'. Two thumping headers from Bonne (earned us three points) and a lovely finish from Dykes v Brentford, which, sadly, earned us nothing.

Surely his two most famous goals were the play off semi final winner and the one up at Hillsborough - saw both live but, like you the one v Sheff Weds was right in front of me as well - happy days!

Not so sure that strikers not finishing nailed-on chances is the story this season.

transfers on 19:11 - Jan 7 with 2002 views | ed_83 | On paper, definitely. But he's only made two starts this season, hasn't played at all since November, and has scored a grand total of one league goal in the last season and a half. Not massively confident about a 37 year old player shaking off that level of rustiness in the time we'd need him to. I guess Rangel hadn't played much when we signed him and did okay though. I can see how it'd make sense, particularly in terms of the experience he'd bring to the team, and i obviously don't want to write off players before they've even signed for us, but I'm a bit worried about this one. edit: that's a reply to the post saying Murray would be an upgrade on our current strikers, sorry! Rangel did very well for us. Difference is, with a defender the more experienced you are, the less need for speed as you can anticipate what will happen. Whereas, with a striker if you lose that sharpness, that natural instinct , it tends to reduce the amount of opportunities in and around the six yard box. Personally, If we were choosing a striker who was a bit past his shelf-life, I would try and bring in, you know your man with WBA, who used to be a bit handy here before.

glenn Murray's experience off the field will just be as valuable to dykes, bonne, and especially kelman.

I meant Furs was older than Murray when he scored that goal, so technically you're never too old. Not sure Murray would be any good but might help our inexperienced strikers.

I think we have to be realistic about this. If a better one was available on loan at a cost we can stretch to then I think we would be trying for him but so would other clubs. As it is, my guess is that we are trying to get the cost down as he is on Premier League wages. I'm not sure whether Watford are contracted to keep him for the season. If they are then they may be persuaded to contribute to the salary.

If there isn't better out there at the prices that we can afford I would suggest that we are doomed........contrary to firm belief I feel that if we get a decent striker to go with what we already have here we will climb the table to maybe around 10th position.

True. If he could weigh in with 5 or 6 and provide off the field 'assists' to our other strikers then he might be worth a punt
