Academy - 2nd year scholars 17:54 - Jun 7 with 2942 views100notout

There were rumours on here some time ago about all these lads being released - has this been confirmed? Apologies if I missed it. If they have what was the rationale? Seems a crazy decision after them winning a trophy and in the mayhem of the AGM/EGM this seems to have all gone under the radar

Poll: So who do you believe - Hendo or the Board?

Yes. Reason being they weren’t deemed good enough to be offer pro-contracts.

Yet some deemed good enough for a punt at clubs currently 2 leagues above us...very strange

Which of them have been offered pro deals elsewhere?

Would imagine they will filter straight into U23 squads. Something we don’t have the pleasure of having unfortunately.

I think that BBM was quoted as saying that contracts had been offered to two first year Scholars (Peter Thomas and Brad Kelly?) on the basis that they were deemed to be potential first team players when the year two Scholars didn’t have any such players in their ranks.
He didn’t say whose decision this was though.
He also spoke highly of Joe Dunne who has the same sort of potential.
I suppose that, whilst this year group may be trialling elsewhere, none of them have actually signed for anyone yet.
On the other side of the coin in recent years we’ve seen seen Academy players actually play in the first team but not kick on from there.
Lads like James Hooper, Conrad Logan and Marty Gilliam spring to mind.
Such a lottery these days.

Conrad Logan...

Or even Joel - and I don't mean Garner.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

An easy mistake to make.

Anybody know what Marty Gilliam is up to these days?

The decision not to offer any of them deals was solely the decision of BBM and Lee Riley, and not a cost-saving exercise performed by Bottomley as was rumoured when this news first came out a month ago.

As nordenblue iterated, most are already on trial at other clubs although I’m unsure if any have actually signed deals. I was told a month ago two have confirmed deals at Accrington and Stockport, but I haven’t seen anything official.
