Non-League 22/23 10:24 - Jul 2 with 45562 views | toboboly | Thought we could have a season long non-league thread, I know a few people on here are keen on groundhopping. After Hillingdon Borough cancelled last minute last week I am heading to Raynes Park Vale v QPR XI today. Not a new ground but always good to make a ground tick "hooped" by watching QPR there. Anyone else heading to a game today?

Non-League 22/23 on 10:08 - Jul 5 by QPR_Nippon | I’m also a fairly regular visitor to Hayes Lane as they’re pretty local. Nice place to watch football and always easy to park - and not your typical location for a football stadium, being largely surrounded by fields. Watched them in both of their recent FA Trophy finals and think of them as my 2nd team now. |
Where's the love for Cray Wanderers? Oldest club in London I think.

Top knowledge. I never knew that about Cray Wanderers. I was chatting to my mates young son at an Rs game last season who has really caught the football bug - plays the game, is mad about QPR, and loves footy stats. I told him the first football team in England was Sheffield FC. He thought about this for a moment and replied, “But who did they play?” I was stumped.

Just secured there 8th promotion in 10 yrs to the national league north, with the same and still current manager Jimmy dean. Will be playing teams like York city,Darlington, and Chester. It’s an incredible rise/story. |
They won't be playing York City - they got promoted back to National League Premier via play offs. Old colleague of mine has been following them home away for 45 years. Said he had tears streaming down his face when they won it. Only their 8th promotion in 100 years!

Also there appeared to be a wake going on in the clubhouse at the same time as the match. Curious sight. Especially as all the older gents seemed to have Elvis style haircuts.

Wealdstone won 2-1 but I thought Slough were the better team tbh. Wealdstone played a different 11 second half of whom a lot were trialists, but even 1st half i didn't think they were all that.

It’s kind of an ambition of mine and not sure why I’ve not yet done it, to watch Clapton at the Old Spotted Dog. Thus making three generations of the family to do so. Reg, my dad’s dad was a regular at he OSD. My dad has virtually zero interest in football but was taken to see Forest Gate’s finest between the wars! Now there is the added complication that there is the original ‘Tons’ Clapton FC and the breakaway (Antifa) Clapton CFC who last time I checked, neither were playing at the OSD. I understood that Clapton CFC were due to move back to playing in Forest Gate having apparently bought the lease of the Old Spotted Dog ground. For me it’s only going to work properly, if it is at the traditional ground, whichever version of the club this is. Apologies in advance for boring you with this East London nonsense!

I believe your wish will be granted this season as i think they have finished renovations and are moving back. I saw the original incarnation not long before they left and the ground was in a sorry state so hope it has improved 👠

For no reason that I could explain, I have a very good feeling about "Chesh" this season! By coincidence I saw Finchley & Wingate in the FA Cup last season losing to a Kent seaside team (can’t remember which one). They have a curious looking stand on one side of the ground. Seen better days but a bit 1930’s Art-Deco lido in style.
