Leyton Orent are the only unbeaten team in the division.

Stevenage and Barrow are 2nd and 3rd respectively despite finishing last season 21st and 22nd.

Hartlepool and Rochdale remain the only two sides without a win.

Swindon have drawn 5 of their eight matches.

Gillingham have only managed two goals in eight games. There are 21 individual players who have scored more than two league goals this season.

Leyton Orient's unbeaten record has now gone after they lost to Newport last week.

Hartlepool got their first win of the season, and first since March I believe, in midweek to leap out of the bottom two and up to 20th. They are also the division's draw specialists, along with Carlisle, with six draws from their 11 matches.

Gillingham nearly have as many wins as goals (2 V 3).

Leyton Orient and Stevenage continue to lead the way despite having a top scorer with only four goals. Proof that you can prosper without that mythical 20 goal a season striker? Hoskins from third placed Northampton has 11 so he's over halfway there already.

There are only two managers in the division that were appointed before 2020 and both are at recently promoted clubs (Harrogate and Sutton).

Can I just point out, apropos nothing, that Preston North End are currently 11th in the Championship and only 2 points off the play-offs. In that time, they've won 3, drawn 7 and only lost 2 of their opening 12 games. In doing so they've scored just 4 goals and conceded just 4 goals. It doesn't sound particularly entertaining to watch, but that is quite remarkable!

An absence of goal fests for sure.

Our old friend Ian Henderson is now Rochdale's all-time leading goalscorer. Quite an impressive feat especially as he's played over 300 times elsewhere. Nice one Ian.

Left us far to soon but oh how we could do with someone like him.
5 years older than most of our front players yet still scoring!

I know at the time of his departure there were some "disruptive influences" at the club and I believe he was one of them. Nearly 700 appearances, 185 goals, still playing at 37 and he's never cost a club a penny. Can't be too bad.

Stevenage have signed Forster-Caskey from Charlton.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64156853

Were they in a position to do this only after we bought Read from them? Does this mean Gilbey will be returning to Charlton? I'd love to see Gilbey back at Col U if the opportunity arose.

The Foster-Caskey signing appeared on the BBC website yesterday. Read signing popped up this morning, even though it was completed yesterday. Who knows in what order the deals were completed?

I want this deal to sign Danny Johnson to go through.

That will demonstrate intent and commitment to not only avoid the drop but also get up the table.

More than anything a striker of his ability at this level is needed.

Gilbey won't be coming back unlike Ferguson who has just taken over at Peterboro for the fourth time!

Kenny Jackett and Andy Hessenthaler take up roles at Gillingham.

Along with Harris there's a lot of experience at the club now so if they don't stay up they can't blame it on that.

Bit of a strange situation with Lindsey leaving Swindon in 8th and joining Crawley who have already sacked two Managers this season.
Hopefully we will get ahead of them soon and as said, January could be a defining month for us.
Going to be a dogfight with Gillingham, like us pushing the boat out player wise.
See Gillingham have sold all tickets for game against Crawley in early February by letting fans pay 'whst they can afford ' provided more than a €1 which is an innovative way to fill the ground
Am very happy with us getting players in early and paying decent money to make sure we did.

With Bloomfield leaving the U's this week and Curle being sacked by Hartlepool both clubs are looking for their third permanent manager of the season. In League Two only 11 managers, less than half, have been in position for over a year and four of them aren't even 13 months in (Simpson, Hughes, Flynn and Harris). Only two managers, Gray at Sutton and Weaver at Harrogate have been managing their clubs for over three years. With Gray coming up to four years and Weaver just short of 14. It's no surprise really that both of these clubs have seen periods of relative success the last few seasons that have seen them promoted to the football league. What are the odds on another League Two manager going before the end of the season? I wouldn't be surprised to see another couple leave personally.

Definitely. Only Gillingham, of the five teams below us, can go above us by getting points from their game's in hand. The form of the bottom four, one win between them from 24 combined matches, is certainly helping to take the pressure off somewhat. Given Bradford's recent form I'd actually be happy with a point on Saturday. If we lose it would be three defeats in a row for only the second time this season. Incidentally the last time it happened the three matches were Wayne Brown's final match in charge, Steve Ball's caretaker match in charge and Matt Bloomfield's first match in charge.

Tonight’s results….
Harrogate win and climb above us.
Gillingham only draw but have a game in hand.
Crucially, Crawley lose 3-0.
Slowly, the games in hand of others are being eroded.

Our next few fixtures look mighty tough. Let’s hope it doesn’t come down to our fixture versus Crawley that could potentially be the loser goes down with Rochdale. Humes out!

My money was on Hartlepool joining Rochdale going down, but Crawley are making a convincing audition for the second slot role right now. Our 9pt cushion hasn’t changed for over 3 weeks now, despite 3 narrow defeats on the bounce against strong promotion contenders. Just goes to show the value of points on the board over games in hand.

As I said on a different thread we are currently halfway through playing the same six teams that we had to start the season. It looked a tough start then but looks even tougher now given their respective league positions and form. We only managed four points from our opening six games of the season and we haven't managed any from the last three games although I feel like we could've had five or more had we taken our chances and had a bit of good fortune.

RS - we deserved something at Carlisle and Bradford.

I went to the Stockport game and we played poorly that day but still could have secured a point.

The Cobblers have the Indian sign over us regrettably and that shows no sign of ending.

New Manager bounce must have an impact this weekend for the home game

I remain confident that we will stay up but it is the summer exodus that worries me

It looks like Crawley battered Doncaster tonight with limited reward..,,
Possession 62%: 38%
Shots 15:2
Shots on target 6:1
Corners 9:0
Fouls 4:10
Result 1:1

Great stuff Donny, shame you conceded in the 82 minute!

Crawley are now 3 points behind the U’s with inferior GD, albeit with a game in hand. However, they must play Rochdale (H), Colchester (H) and Hartlepool (A). This means that Colchester, Hartlepool, Rochdale and Crawley cannot each take three points from these (three) Crawley fixtures. Hartlepool have a particularly tough run in. Looking at this fixture sequence, I reckon another 7 points from 9 fixtures might even be enough if we keep our GD advantage.

Grimsby still drawing at Mansfield.

Johnson once again is an unused substitute.
Update Johnson gets 7 minutes game time!

Mansfield accepted a bid from us for Johnson but he didn't want to lower himself to make the transfer.

I truly hope that the Stags fail to achieve the play offs and more so that we defeat them on the last day of the season.

Grimsby now safe from the drop.
