Think his record will stand for a long time. It's a hard thing to do to break the goalscoring record at a club like ours, anyone who is good enough to do it tends to find themselves attracting the attention of the bigger clubs.
Thankfully I've lived through the Ian Henderson era, who I think is our best ever player (definitely in my time supporting us). He's given the best years of his career to us and that has to be respected and the goal record is the icing on the cake. |  |

Goes to show how the decade of 2010-2020 was one of stability.
I watched the video of all of Hendo's goals earlier and its broadly the same crop of core players.
The antics of 2020-2021 clearly have set the club back a long way from that stability; a year where no young players were retained and went to other clubs and secret contact extensions were handed out to a manager who eventually walked out on us.
It does remind you how good we had it despite the obvious limitations. |  |

That’s a spine of a perfectly capable L1 side and the entire squad should have been utilised better and differently at various stages of the season. Analysing it in the cold light of day once the season was over, it was incredibly frustrating that we were relegated because of tactical inefficiencies and inability to be practical when required.

Yep, definitely played a part. Especially with the amount of time Humphrys and Beesley were injured. Even then though, we scored 61 goals - more than any other side in the bottom eight and one more than Blackpool who finished third and were promoted. | |

Can remember defending him around Christmas, mainly because I was willing him to see that he had a squad that could get results and quite clearly score goals if we played to its strengths rather than his perceived vision.
There was such a reluctance to focus on what we were good at to try and be good at something we weren’t. [Post edited 9 Nov 2022 21:47]

I don't disagree about the players not being good enough - of the 8 you name there is a Premier League goalkeeper and three Championship players just a year after leaving us.
You've also missed out Morley now at Bolton and an emerging Conor Grant both of whom are playing in League 1.
What made no sense for me in that season was that despite the tactical stupidity for most of the season in the last 7 games, 14 points were achieved out of a possible 21 starting with the infamous 13th April 2021 Swindon Town game where multiple fast cars (including a Rolls Royce Cullinan), the Speakmans and various parties were at Spotland to kick the tyres.

The Board have now reached a key stage with a number of highly interested parties, including a group of investors, who attended last night’s game along with the Speakmans.
In the midst of that, we were openly quite good at football - threw the game away at Wimbledon which, on balance, was the moment that cost us the League 1 status.
However we know, in some detail, from subsequent events that football was not the internal focus.

We were relegated three weeks after that 11th April email, which was two days before the evening of tits and teeth. On the day we were relegated champagne was first drink opened.
Seven weeks after that 11th April email, we had the worlds longest AGM and EGMs which saw Bottomley and Rawlinson removed.
Eleven weeks after that 11th April email, Bottomley left the club via "mutual consent" and Barry-Murphy escaped immediately to Manchester City, walking out on a guaranteed year of a job - which is unheard of in football.
And on 1 July 2021 a load of shares were sold by individual to Morton House.
Even the EFL said (Paragraph 17) - The key events took place in April to July 2021.
At a time of year where plans should have been made for the following season, some were seemingly were planning for it all to end on the 30th June. No youth players retained,
Bottomley's CEO tenure saw season tickets for 2021/22 only announced for sale at the end of May 2021 and put on sale on 1 July 2021! Very odd for a club that needed investment.

You are right that we should have comfortably stayed up under BBM but how would that have helped the grand plan? Bottomley the CEO giving the secret contract extension to the manager that was blurted out at a Fan's Forum and as the EFL concluded it wasn't the only piece of Roger's forgetfulness.
There is no doubt in my mind that we were slowly being softened and weakened, secretly tee'd up for a sale and then run into the ground for Morton House to asset strip us bare. The last seven games everyone was in the shop window, valuations were being created. What spoiled it was the 1 June 2021 EGMs - that put a massive spanner in the works and then those who were selling did so anyway.
Of that Board, only Pockney and Kelly - to their eternal credit IMO stood firm - both choosing not to sell out to Morton House where others clearly did.
We went down because the manager wasn't good enough.

The actions have been discussed here and elsewhere many times over and the evidence shows love for someone's self-interest was of far greater importance to one individual than RAFC. Hundreds of shareholders didn't sell out to Morton House for personal gain. They are the ones who love the club, not those who did sell out.
