Lyanco´s mistake 12:01 - Jan 5 with 2316 viewsSpringhill_old_boy

The above is from the Notts Forest youtube channel due to the fact that the Saints one just show the Forest player bearing down on goal.
49 second shows the instance that Lyanco receives the ball from Ward Prowse he is instantly pressed and due to the fact that Ward Prowse stays still as does Walker Peters on the flank .. this press closes down any possible pass to either player. As Lyanco tries to break the press he is forced into a pass on his blindside to a similarly static Salisu (51 second) who is not up with play and therefore is easily dispossessed by the onrushing Johnson who cuts inside and runs on to goal .. Both Ward Prowse and Lyanco are too slow to keep up with the run of Awoniyi who receives and scores. I am assuming that it is Walker Peters on the far right touchline which bears the question ... where was Bella Kotchup beacuse in the moment that Awoniyi receives the pass there are only 3 Saints players (apart from Bazunu who was anticipating a shot from Johnson) in the frame - Salisu Ward Prowse and finally Lyanco. Now this poses the simple question EXACTLY what do they train during the week because it does not look as if finding space and making yourself available for a pass when a team mate is under pressure is high on the agenda. Neither does it seem that pressing as a unit is that important as it seems in the past 2 matches that I have watched, One player would go to press but the others are not in synch .. closing down passing lines etc therefore causing the press to be easily broken. I could go on but just writing this is depressing enough!!

I don’t want to watch.

It’s like having to watch Matt Hancock sing.

Poll: Would you take Ward-Prowse back?

Bella Kotchop is the player on touchline (right back) doesn’t appear to rush back, KWP at right wing waiting for yet another long ball coming from the back 3

Thanks it wasnt that clear on the image ... so if they are playing a 3 ... why was he so far up in relation to the other 2 ? and as you say he didnt seem interested in doing what his first job is which is to defend .. either that or he is slower than Lyanco. Just rewatched it and after playing the ball to Lyanco , Bella Kotchup is clearly motioning for him to punt it upfield. Is this the tactic now ? Hoof ball ? Might as well get Allerdyce or Warnock in then !

Yep, we're officially a hoofball team now. Jones keeps going on and on about keeping a clean sheet... "we have to defend better and not let the opposition score" etc etc. So his plan is when any of our defenders get the ball, they're to hoof it away from the goal & up the field where one of our (crap) tall/lofty (non-existent) strikers "may" pop the ball into the net - all in the blink of an eye.

I think he's a master tactician personally. Why didn't any previous manager think of that?

Nathan Jones tactical genius? I'm in!

Springhill says: " it does not look as if finding space and making yourself available for a pass when a team mate is under pressure is high on the agenda." That's right but that's been the problem for a long time under Ralph. That's why we ended up passing sideways. Now those old habits are hard to break.

We have conceded many goals over the last year because we passed and passed sideways and then gave it away. The opposition broke quickly on us and scored. We need to be better at making forward passes available, but until that happens there's a lot to be said for hoofing the ball up the pitch when nothing seems on. If Lyanco had done that last night we wouldn't have conceded that goal.

Don't blame anyone other than Lyanco for that. The guy has shown himself to be a fvckin liability, time and time again - so much so that I'm surprised that your clip is only of the Forest key mistake.
He thinks he is far better than he really is, can't always beat the press and always goes for the Hollywood pass, when there are better and safer options. He lacks awareness (and ability) and it is his job to know where his fellow defenders and the opposition are.
Last night's error got punished, but he and the rest of the defence also got away with a lot of other stupid and often unforced errors.

Just look at the highlights from the Fulham game. Lyanco failed to get anywhere near his man for the near post flick on, for what was ultimately the winning goal. He was also in so much trouble in the build up to the penalty we conceded, it was almost laughable. He will have his own blooper DVD out at the end of the season.

He is an accident waiting to happen - a liability in our team and part of the reason we have conceded in every single game bar 1, which was away to Bournemouth and coincidentally, he was an unused sub that night !!

Worryingly last night, a guy close to us was saying that Stephens and Bednarek (2 CBs who were deemed not good enough for us 1 and 2 seasons ago) would be an upgrade on all 4 of the CBs we currently have !!

But he looks edgy and revs up the crowd so often gets a free pass

Add into this Che Adams woeful miss early in the game which may have settled the team. How many bl**dy chances does this guy need to score? His conversion rate is appalling. If he had taken a quarter of his chances earlier in the season arguably RH would still be in a job.

Yeh well why soo many of the idiots were booing him up right in the corner of Itchen North was just stupid! As at least he actually gives a toss and does bother to give 100% every game, and even then made just 1 mistake in that incident where nether Salisu or Bella-Kotchup did any better!
As yeah he may have made that mistake, but like you’ve highlighted, many others were to blame as well, and it’s also both Salisu and Bella faults for not managing to stop the attack after the pass

And why is it he’s the only one getting booed after Adams’s miss, how invisible Aribo or Lavia were? And all that’s those lot just didn’t create or do, as well as the likes of Mara? As really they all deserved to be booed just as much as each other, yet it’s just him and Elynousie that got it, which isn’t right, as unless a players done like a middle finger up to his own crowd or something, you shoulder ever boo specific players as it gains you nothin at all, whilst booing the whole team at half/FullTime is at least fair as for performances like yesterday nobody was any good

Salisu was also at fault , not reading the game and being aware of what was happening around him .

The way the Forrest player turned him to have a clear run on goal was poor to say the least .

On Salisu I noticed last night that for a Centre back in is so week and gets bundled of the ball too easily.

I have been trying not to comment on the game. Going through all the bad bits would be like writing a Goth diary. But one of the things that infuriated me most was JWP and Elyounoussi failing time and again to make themselves available to the back 3 who were nearly always left to figure a way out of the mess by themselves. I felt sorry for Caletta Carr who kept getting the hospital passes and the crowd on his back. Perrault was the only player who was entitled to walk off with his head held high, not that I was there then.
