We love to lose to the bottom placed clubs - Norwich recently, now Oxford.
That's because we have a sh1t mindset - a "We don't need to try too hard" attitude. The fact is clubs see us as a big scalp, one that's just come down from the Premier League & they put a real shift in against us. That's why managers always go on about "a winning mentality".
We don't have that. We seem to approach games half-arsed a lot of the time & you can see in some players that they aren't up for the fight some weeks. That just makes the team inconsistent and that's exactly what we are ; inconsistent. Just look at last few games for proof of that.
Someone somewhere over at Staplewood needs to give the players a kick up the arse and impress on Eckert the need to approach each game 100% committed or fu(k off.
Tippy-tappy, tippy-tappy, tippy fu(king tappy football again today.
Oxford had 29.3% of the ball today - and yet won the game.
Where was our get forward at pace & overwhelm them game we saw just a few short weeks ago? Until we address this tippy-tappy across the back & walking pace bollocks, we aren't going anywhere.
Why drop Joshua Quarshie today for slack Jack? Joshua Quarshie is a better player despite being a lot less experienced!
Eckert thought we'd win today without having to get into top gear, that's why. He saw a struggling Oxford in the drop zone & thought today would be a good day to bring slack Jack back into the team.
The outcome, sadly, was all on Tonda today. Time for him to reassess, change things a little, tinker here & there and learn quickly.
Eckert insists on playing three centre backs for reasons only he knows. I can't fathom for the life of me why we don't turn up at these grounds and let the opposition worry about us for a change - instead of Eckert worried about them scoring.
Everyone, Eckert included, knows we have a pretty poor keeper and defence who are struggling to compete even at this level. Stop the three CB's bollix and outscore the opposition. We're never keeping a clean sheet with this set-up at the back. The old adage of attack is the best form of defence applies here. I couldn't give a rats' arse if we win games 5-4 or 4-3 - as long as we win.
And FFS stop with the needless substitutions. Every team in this league is playing a lot of games in a short period - but I bet most of them didn't sub their best players today (after a weeks' rest anyway) and concentrated on winning today, here & now. Hands up who knew we weren't going to win today once Scienza was withdrawn?...
This team is going nowhere. The players have reverted to comfortable mode once Tonda was given the job full time & the boss himself keeps making the wrong team selection followed by the wrong substitutions.
They've done their homework on Bazunu ; "If you get a chance lads, have a shot from outside the box. Their keeper is terrible - despite what that Nick bloke says on that Ugly something or other forum".
passed away aged 74 after a short illness. I know everyone, especially at this time of year, is hearing 'Driving Home For Christmas' - but I always loved this song of his. Reminds me of hot Summer days & warm nights somewhere abroad on holiday, just chilling out, drinking a cold beer beside the Mediterranean or Aegean Sea and no cares in the world.
A chance to put us on a good footing for the visit of high-flying, top of the table Coventry next Saturday - and we balls it up in typical Saints fashion. Could have edged into the play-off positions with a win today. Don't you just hate it when we revert to Rustyball tactics like we did in the 2nd half today. So frustrating.
I hope we have a good striker earmarked for the January window.
We should be offering Stoke City whatever it takes to part with Viktor Johansson in January... and if not, he should be our no.1 target next Summer. He's the main reason Stoke have conceded the fewest goals of all the teams in the division!
