By all accounts. Should shut up the idiots that frequent Twitter for a bit.

Watching last week fulton and grimes were bossed by an average WBA midfield.

Their secret? To get the ball forward quickly, whereas we were our usual lethargic passing it about aimlessly in between the 18 yard box and the halfway line.

Grimes should be further up the pitch with allen in the defensive midfielder role.

Yeah they were destroyed. I think (hope) Patino is the game changer here. Energetic and constantly demanding the ball. Genuinely believe that will give Grimes the time, space and options he needs.

Hopefully further up the pitch closer to the goal where it matters.

For me drops way to deep, spent far too much time in the defensive line in the last four years When Downes played he was better at covering behind our 3 CB defenders as they push forward because he had the pace if not the experience, only for Grimes catching up eventually to make it a 5 man defence, 3 CB and two midfielder to make the pointless two yard pass, so deep leaving the wide men only two option down the line or backwards because there was no one in the open middle of the park.
We can berate our defenders about bad passing out of defence but if you don't get midfielders with good movement off the ball the defenders end up forcing the pass.
Cannot compare Grimes movement to Leon Britton's nor Joe Allen's since he has come back funnily enough we look a different team with Joe in it but you cannot rely on Joe to last the season without injury and needs to be used carefully and cannot rely on Grimes or Fulton together to push up through the midfield at pace hopefully with the new permanent players signed they can help them and ease the problem we have had in the middle for a while.
We have addressed quite a few short comings in the team since relegation and the financial turmoil involved hopefully we can push on with what seems to be a more solid base this season( trying to forget the young school boy defending seen at WBA) .
You should note that Duff has not put Grimes as one of the last two defenders at our attacking corners as previous managers have at a cost to rhe team.

He plays the game his manager wants. And is very good at it.

This is as good a signing than any team in this league could make.

And he chose Swansea 👍

Is it on improved terms or just an extra 2 years for long term security?

He's not a bad lad. Seems a nice bloke, leads the team professionally. Technically gifted but frustrates due to constantly missing the opportunity to put in the best pass.

Hopefully as others said, with Duff and an energetic Patino ahead of him his game may start to blossom.

So he is playing in the a position as requested by managers where his lack off pace is exploit and is also told to drop deep in a team and make the area so congested so leaving it easy to close down, resulting in the midfield being put under pressure or overrun and if we commit players up the park susceptible to counter attacks.
Many times last year we executed a high press and Grimes would not commit to it until too late leaving the midfield open to be played through, Steve Cooper knew it the year before and opened us up with ease.
Hopefully Duff now has the players to support Grimes while getting the best out of him with it working to the advantage of the team further up the park

Team game and most players have their plus and minus points. Up to the manager to consistently get the mix right.

Hope Grimes gets the support he needs especially with him.signing the new deal

He’s played near enough every minute since we’ve been in the championship. All three managers rated him as an autumn start and he’s just been offered an extension under the fourth.

That should tell people something.
