Bella-Kotchap deal collapsing probably didn't help.

It's a shame because it would be more entertaining than the brass band or the crossbar challenge

Not even the far right people?

I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it.

Parsons said on Monday night that the SKY money is dripfed over a number of payments.

You don’t just get it upfront.

I now believe that we won’t sign anybody apart from on loan or out of contract free transfers.

We simply don’t have the cash, even to sign Fraser from Newcastle.

We can sign two players on loan from Prem clubs, plus more from abroad.

We need them to be good ones.

Just seen that the Swiss guy Shaqiri is available on a free transfer. He’s 32 now, but still so skilful and a brilliant left foot. Could do worse….

I’m sure we’re just several million away from spending cap limit.

Ah yes, our esteemed and most venerable CEO told us all at the fans forum that we can forget the £100m, we don’t get it up front, it’s not as simple as that, it comes in ‘in dribs and drabs throughout the season’ so we can’t rely on it now. So, that’s us told… The balance of the PL pot is performance related prize money which is paid out at the end of the season based on your finishing position in the PL which I believe is about a £30m equal share plus about £1.7m per place from a base £1.7m for 20th, £3.4m for 19th ect, ect…
What I would like to know is what Solak our supposed billionaire on board is doing to help out this transfer window? Not expecting Todd Boehly II to ride into town but a bit of help to bring in O’Riley and Ramsdale would have been nice.

Ah! The ups and downs of a Saints fan,Pat. Whatever happens Saints fans will support their club it’s just our fate. I will never support another.
Going to be one hard season to endure I feel.

Agreed.
Shaqiri is a good shout btw

I reckon the most we can hope for now is IF we’ve got £10m get the Palace keeper or better still Szczensy then it is down to some more astute loans and freebies. Add to that Dibling and Amo-Ameyaw who have both looked like they are worth a punt and who knows? out of adversity we might just find a couple of gems - the PL being a brutal place to play, accepted.

And what happened to the (substantial) parachute payment?

As mentioned above the Sky money is drip fed in over the season and dependent on final position and number of broadcast games.
The other thing to consider is the additional cost of wages and presumably promotion bonuses which have to be paid for.

Good question Ron - as we got promoted after one season we would not get the full parachute payment as it is spread unevenly over three seasons. So we
probably got half of the PP as they give you a bigger percentage the first season after relegation.
We were very much an established PL club when we went down and our entire set up was based around the income streams the PL brings in. I would suggest that a lot of the PP was swallowed up paying PL wages in the short term, the laughable loyalty bonuses, and over 400 staff. The CEO said at the forum we have reduced staff by a third and that won’t go back up. Then there in is the ex-Managers we are paying off having binned them plus RM’s unresolved compo claim from Swansea, and a debt to service / repay. All in all I reckon past errors in judgement like appointing the pilchard that is Nathan Jones and the panic buys in the Jan window plus all of the above saw off the PP and a lot of the funds generated by the players sold last summer. All of that said I still can’t quite believe we can’t afford a £25m player! I keep saying to myself surely we can’t be fhat skint can we? But it seems like we are…
