Our welsh councils are revolting ……

Bit of a shame really as Charlie boy always does the right thing by Wales … 🇬🇧 …. Known for it ….

What was Scotland thinking because everything always runs better from Westminster and Buck House, dont you know …. And Wales is wealthy enough already so not big deal to us ….

Just checked.

The latest one I could find showed that 55% of 18 - 24 year olds would vote yes.

We agree to disagree then.

If you contribute to wales and live, work and/or love in wales then you are welsh if you want to be.
I think starting on any other path is divisive and of no value.

Joe Calzaghe and many others have represented Wales with great honour and as welsh people we celebrate that.

When the son of an Iranian scores for Wales against England we wont care, and when the daughter of a Pole cares for your elderly relative in Morriston Hospital we wont care.

Whereas the Prince of Wales on the other hand ….

Part of the problem with sport is the ability to choose your nationality and then switch it if you want to.
Otherwise a son of an Iranian can represent Wales if he is born here, that makes him Welsh. Even so very many people cling to their cultural identity, their kids can be Welsh but many older immigrants never will be.

Joe Calzaghe was born in Hammersmith and his mother is Welsh, from Caerphilly, he's at the very least 50% Welsh. It's not just about being born in Wales but Iranian people can't move to Wales and claim to be Welsh.
Now the Polish, those that i call friends are some of the nicest, most decent and hardworking people I have met and none of them ever intended to call themselves Welsh, the 4 families I used to know, 3 of them went back to Poland after saving enough to buy a nice house out there, the other family, well they had stayed but the husband had a heart attack and died and his wife then returned to her family.

AS I have already said, every resident of Wales has a civic responsibility but that doesn't make them Welsh.

I remember seeing something that most people think you are Welsh if you were born in Wales or have two Welsh parents or live in Wales or have one Welsh parent.

I think you missed the part where they are different people to the current old heads.

The current old heads were brought up with post war British images everywhere.
Useful things existed like British Coal, BP, British Airways, British Rail, British Steel, British Telecom …. Most sold off to foreign investors thanks to Maggie Thatcher.

The young are not from that post war world.
They think like the Europeans they are.
They think equality and diversity are good things.
Yes the young will grow older but they wont change their minds.

There is a choice though - transform and modernise the union, or Indy.

People are not going back to a snivelling George Thomas model (apart from the WRU obviously).

People mostly change as they grow older, it comes from knowledge and experience.

Speaking for a small group of people, around 9 of us, when we were young we were anti English, all for Welsh independence and committed Labour voters. Roll on 40 years and things are very different.

Back then we didn't care about the environment or law and order, we didn't worry about the NHS and knew next to nothing about politics besides all saying we were Labour voters, we were part of the flock, we were sheep.
We grew up though, we lived and (importantly) we learned. It's true some never do but most do.
This thinking like Europeans thing, whensome military person suggested conscription so the army would be big enough if we needed it because of Russia, most young people rebelled against the idea. I'm sure you remember the furore on social meedia and young people saying they wouldn't join up, they wouldn't fight. So much for being European, it's more a case of "I'm alright Jack" and to hell with Ukraine.

What you mean is, you hope the young all think like you. Your characterisation of the George Thomas model is simply your opinion. I don't know anybody who is like that, we want better for Wales and we don't see your version as an improvement, mostly anyway. The Union needs to modernise for sure and that's pretty much where I agree with you.

Thinkers like you? If you'd really thought about it maybe you'd have understood that I was talking about people born outside Wales who have moved here, not people like Jason Mohammad who was born in Wales, born in Cardiff in fact.

Also Welshness is not a concept, you are Welsh or you are not. If you were born in Poland and move to Wales, settle here and live your time out here, that doesn't make you Welsh. That's why so many immigrants maintain their customs and practices for generations after they move to another country.

I was born in Africa, by two parents who were born in England.
I was raised and still live in wales.

I've seen this many times. The suggestion is that when they grow up they realise the folly of their ways and change tack.

In the Scottish ref in 2014 the result was 45% yes and 55% no. The numbers in the younger age groups was more yes than no. Fast forward 11 years and in theory, according to unionists, many of those younger voters will have grown up and changed to become unionists.

Also many unionists were thrilled at the fall in SNP popularity saying that would mean a fall in support for Indy in Scotland. A plainly ridiculous thought.

Just think of the logic. A person who believed in Scottish Indy votes for the SNP because they are a pro indy party. They wouldn't have been pro indy because the SNP suddenly existed, they were already pro indy. But then when the SNP implodes (for internal party reasons) that person suddenly thinks I think i'll change to pro union ! As I say, ridiculous.

And when you check what the current Indy situation is in Scotland it's basically the same as in 2014, roughly a 45/55 split.

Hang on, according to the logic though, as the old die and get replaced the number of people wanting Indy should rise. If it hasn't then just what has happened? Maybe some of those indy supporters got 10 years older and changed their minds?

I wonder how many of those who voted to stay in the union have died in the last 10 years? 56% want to remain apparently, as far as you can trust polls.

A government minister said in an interview a couple of weeks ago that the armed forces get around 100,000 applications a year. So, in theory, it should be easy to expand the size of the armed forces as long as the money is there to recruit and train those people.

He also said that incredibly it takes 249 days from application to acceptance. Plainly ridiculous.

Agreed. It works both ways.

I suppose what's most important is that twenty years ago or so support was less than 10%. So support has definitely increased substantially while the Welsh demographic has been much the same. In fact the population is getting gradually older.

Indeed it is. People are living longer and people are having less children. The premise that supports the fact that older people will want to stay in a union is strengthened by that I’d say.

Also there’s the influx of other nationalities an cultures. Asian cultures for example tend to be very keen to be seen as British and I have that from those I’ve spoken to.

I get out plenty, it;s not myself who has the blinkered view and sees the world only one way.

Which opinion polls are you talking about?

Actually quite a lot of Welsh residents voted Tory, more voted Tory in the general election before last than voted for Labour in the Senedd elections. It has very much changed since but the way Starmer os going it'll turn again if he's not careful.

I know that in your little mind when I talk about miltary stuff you like to think I'm talking 1939 but yet again (no surprises) you are very wrong.
A modern armed forces still needs people to join up. Otherwise there is nobody to pilot the drones and UAV's, there is nobody to launch the rockets, fly the modern jet fighters or crew the modern ships.

Maybe you think that the engineers and scientists will do the inventing and engineering and then do the fighting? Maybe the young people can all stay at home in front of their screens and let the old people take care of things?

Newsflash Kilky, the armed forces needs young people. The young know this but a large number of them have said no chance. The way you talk you'd think the young were all genius level when an overwhelming number of under 35's can't even drag their eyes away from a screen long enough to cross the road safely.
