Five Swans included in Wales training squad ... 10:08 - May 16 with 1850 viewstheloneranger

"Five Swansea City players have been included in a Wales training squad ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Ben Cabango, Liam Cullen and Ollie Cooper have been regulars in the national squad, while youngsters Sam Parker and Joel Cotterill are also named by Dragons boss Craig Bellamy in the 29-strong party.

The squad will initially train at the FAW's Vale of Glamorgan base, before heading to Alicante in Spain.

The final group for the home fixture against Liechtenstein on June 6, and the away meeting with Belgium on June 9, will be confirmed on May 28."

Looking at the squad makes me wonder why so many were saying that Cardiff being relegated was bad for Welsh football, why exactly ?

Bellamy prefers their academy players to Swansea's it seems. Many u 21 excluded both Colwill brothers and a few of last season u21. He has gone for U19 players.

4 from the current team and three more who were poached. Crew, Benjamin and Bianchieri.

Iwan Morgan seems to have been ignored while forcing his way into the Brentford bench for PL games.

Morgan may be excluded if he is required for the final two Premier League fixtures, others from Premier League clubs are excluded for the same reason.

He was not included in any squads last time either. Could he have asked not to be considered or got disciplinary issues?

I hope it was s not the bright lights and interest from the FA.

I watched him on the bench against Newcastle but I don't think I have seen him since. That was about 6 weeks ago.

It will never not be utterly bonkers that at the end of a long, hard season, players are expected to turn up for Internationals.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I've not been alive for 100 years so no.

What's the point of International Windows if you're going to make players turn up during the close season? I get playing tournaments in the Summer, but qualifiers should be done between Aug-May.

Friendlies and this Nations League nonsense should be ended. It's only FIFA and morons who think that there should be more International football.

There isnt enough time to get the qualifiers done in that time, thats why there has always been qualifiers in june.

Nations league has been the best format of internationals for years, it has replaced meaningless friendlies with meaningful games. It's absolutely fantastic for lower countries like ours.

We are now in the A groups which makes it a tad easier for us in the euro qualifiers and it also makes sure that we definitely have a play off spot for next year's World Cup if/when we don't win the group.

Wales are in a five team qualifying group. That's eight fixtures in total. Four double headers over two years basically. Could easily be done within the seasons.

The problem is all the other nonsense games, friendlies, Nations League (basically the same thing) and now the ludicrous Club World Cup. When was the last time players at the top level had an actual close season?

FIFA want more games. Bigger tournaments. More money basically. What they want is what everyone else should be opposing.

I get what you say about the top players and teams but I'm on about Wales specifically, I couldn't give a monkeys about the PL players as wales don't have many and ones we do have are squad players.

The nations league is far more competitive than the old friendlies, they ultimately make smaller countries players like ours better and there is a carrot that is dangled in promotion which we have gained twice, which in turn gives a play off chance for a major championship no matter where you finish in the qualifying group.

I used to enjoy the end of season home internationals, I used to look forward to them for months. If you couldn't get a ticket it was live on the TV, a rarity in those days. FA cup final, European Cup final, Home internationals, all televised, then break for the summer if there wasn't a major tournament. No internet it was a long wait until the fixtures came out and just getting an occasional snippet from The Evening Post mainly about overweight players returning to training and running up the sand dunes, we didn't seem to sign many players back then. A home pre season friendly against a team from a higher league used to kick the season off again. Simple life but real glory days.

Wonderful post which evoked many memories for me
Now, after a long tough season we welcome our lads forsaking a rest to go training with Wales to take part in glorified friendliest
Nothing like following Wales away and buying drinks for friendly locals in a spirit of brotherhood
Yeah baby

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Since when have World Cup qualifiers been friendlies ?
