Under these plans we'd be "allocated" an appointment and pardon my cynicism but who knows how far away that could be? Imagine living in Skewen and getting an appoitment in Cardiff.
Then, if they say your teeth are healthy you'll wait 18-24 months for the next check up.

It's a consultation until the 19th June, make sure to have your say.

Does this new system mean somebody that has not got a dentist can now have one ?

Continually being banned by Planet Swans for Porthcawl and then being reinstated.

Well copy and paste the address and read the blurb. You can have your say there too, there's a link to a questionnaire.

I had my say, I have concerns. As I said, imagine living in Skewen and getting an appointment in Cardiff. Maybe that can't happen but given the very poor way previous ideas have been planned and implemented it doesn't fill me with confidence that this plan won't have big flaws.

What if you haven't got a dentist, perhaps this system means you are guaranteed one, if so better that the haves that do have a dentist possibly travel as opposed to have nots having no dentist at all.

One of the big problems is that dentists have been leaving the profession, and/or leaving Wales. The BDA thinks this will drive more dentists away so while technically, yes, everyone might have a dentist, how long are you prepared to wait for treatment? How long are you prepared to wait in between check ups? Then, what when you need an emergency appointment?

There are a lot of questions.

I tried to get an appointment with my dentist and was virtually fobbed off with them saying that there's nothing available until the middle of July absolute joke, Mrs uses a private dentist we both pay our tax's so I think its disgusting that NHS dental patients are being pushed to oneside, last time I was there I asked about implants and they were all over me and phoned me 3 or 4 times since, £160 just for a consultation, plus we pay for scans and xrays to see if you can have implants and then up to 2,1/2k for each implant, legalised robbery, cheeky, starving, greedy, b.....d's

Filled in the form last week. What are the odds that this ‘consultation’ will actually change any of the plans being put forward ? This has all the hallmarks of the continued decline of the NHS in Wales. You only have to look at A&E & the Ambulance service to see what direction this is heading

My local Dental Pratice went Private some years ago , Denplan or now named under another title or group .

Lucky to say my gnashers are in good shape as an OAP and my dentist and their staff give an excellent service , any future major dental work needed might incur a cost though .

My 3 month check up scheme and advice clinic costs me £15 per month to use , think my teeth will fall out on their own time in the next few years , but so far so good .

Maybe still an issue with sweets and sugary drinks not helping children with problems .
Still see parents giving their children a bag of sweets to appease them for a quiet life .

I'm sure there was a report out some years ago saying that an adult only needed to go to the dentist once every 5 years, that it was a scam to get money out of people.

I have no memory of that, go find a link. I guess it would depend though on how well you look after your teeth.

I'm not finding you links, it was in the news a few years back that some thought that every 6 months for an adult with healthy teeth was a nonsense and there was debate around that, a body that advises the NHS said every 2 years in some cases, would be ok I think one of the advanced Scandinavian countries was 18 months, there was some expert that said in certain circumstances 5 year would be ok, some thought the 6 months thing is just to get money.
The discussion may have come about because people could not get a dentist, dentists were seeing the same people over and over when they had little wrong when some of the population had not seen a dentist in multiple decades.
