You look at how the Yorkshire ripper case was bungled from start to finish, they interviewed him several times, he was known to associate with prostitutes and the brand new fiver was traced back to his workplace yet they discounted him because he didn’t have a geordie accent. They were useless, that was widespread at the time. The police were just not set up to deal with these sorts of crimes back then. |  |

Totally agree with you.
The graft is generally done by the constables, sergeants and Inspectors, the Det Supt will usually sign off policy etc. [Post edited 17 Dec 23:10]
