Old School - 4-4-2 At Home 16:05 - Dec 21 with 720 viewsNorthantsHoop

Eureka, we have a manager and players with the old 4-4-2 system on our tight pitch that is paying dividends. It's not rocket science but others are talking about QPR's style and it is great to see. Loving it at home this season, we look a different proposition than we have for years at Loftus Road. Having 2 decent strikers helps, but look at those wide players we have, Mbengue who is now a revelation at right back, Norrington-Davies solid and brilliant. Attacking down the wings we can switch between Saito, Dembele, Smyth and Poku, and Chair great option as well. Good times ahead if we can keep the momentum up and now starting to put the the frightners on teams coming to Loftus Road where for quite a few seasons been a soft touch. Big shout out to our home support this season as well, we are behind the team and it all helps.

I agree with this, but would like us to be a *little* bit more flexible considering the players we have. It was a mistake to play the pressing 2 striker system against Boro for example, and I don't think that's just with hindsight. Even yesterday we made like for like changes positionally when we could have easily brought on someone like Poku a little earlier for a striker and given him minutes whilst beefing up midfield...

It's not a dig and overall I'm obviously delighted to be playing this way and going out to score and win over anything else, but yeah, we have the personnel to switch up occasionally!

His predecessors playing one up front at home led to boring games, no goals and hardly any wins: it’s great to have a head coach prepared to play two forwards.
Not saying any of them were great but I would expect Celar and Dykes would’ve had much more success if played up front with a half decent partner.

I'm not a fan of 4-4-2 but I agree with what you're saying broadly. I think it's not just having a second striker, I think it's attacking in numbers.

I also agree that there are times that 442 leads to us being swamped, so felixibility is the key.

We've got a bit of pace up front which massively helps as well.

4-4-2 at home certainly. Sometimes away I would maybe change it but what do I know over a manager that's managed players such as Dembele, Doue and Camavinga.
