Matos on Cullen 12:49 - Apr 7 with 5617 viewsshandyjack

Think he's got this one wrong, the criticism of Cullen is not because he made 1 or 2 mistakes like Bastoni did. It's purely down to the fact that he's just not good enough for this level to be a regular starter, he offers virtually nothing for the team. Questions need to be asked and answered on what Matos thinks he actually brings to the team.

Same for Ronald too. The majority of fans can see it, but if we are wrong i'd love them to come out and tell us why we are wrong just once

In all my years of watching the Swans and im into tje sixth decade of doing so there have always been players that the fans believed were useless yet managers persisted in picking them.....including gois managers....like Harry Griffiths,Tosh,Martinez,Brendan and Luadrup during these times certain individuals have been the target of critisicm form the stands and in more recent times on forums and the like.
It can also be said that mnagagers get things wrong like John Bond giving away Dean Suanders stating he was never a footballer.
We as fans shoukd bow to the superior knowledge of the proffesional coaches and managers. Yes many of us may coacb or have coached but.nit at these levels ir know what the coach is looking for.
Im dissapointed you have changed your opinion of Matos....he is a very good mamanger and a great man managerr too. He got everyone together in the pitchnin a huddle at the final whistle obviouslynro congratulate on all thier work to achieve that result against the side second in the league.
Lets be honest the.majority of us fans were expectimg a result similar to that of the Coventry one.
Whilst we fans form our opinions on expectations and what we beliwce we see coaxhes and managers make their decisions on whst they see not only on tje yrsining field bit on rhe data derived during a game from the row of analysts gathering data sat.at the back of the West Stand along with the coaches watching.
There are game plans with individuals told to do certain things ...watch substitutes befofe they come on gettingnimstructions from tablets or files...
Yes Cullen is no superstar if he was he wouldnt still be here....the coaching staff obviously believe he has something to contribute.
Ronald too is much criticised but if he were the complete player he certajnly wouldnt be here. As Matos said he needed to build a team....he is tryimg to do his best with the resources available.
In my opinion he has been a breath if fresh air and has made us a better team tjan we were earlier in the season.

Matos has been a breath of fresh air, after his predecessors
My opinion has changed in as much as he stubbornly plays Cullen when everyone watching can see he doesn’t give us anything , attacking or defending consistently and leaves out players who can influence games to play him, everyone around where I sit in the East Stand was complaining about that fact too ,calling for a winger in front of Parker and then flabbergasted when he left him on for the full game ,it’s not just my opinion
I agree that managers have favourite players but to play them stubbornly, regardless of their contribution to the team and game is pigheaded
You can’t play someone just because he “might “ score a goal when having no impact for 90 odd minutes
Squad player maybe but first choice no

And many supporters still have not returned after the dross of Martin , Williams and Sheehan
They caused enormous damage IMO
When fans feel shat on they stay away
Fact
Matos IS full of spirit and has more personality in his toenails than the three above mentioned but some of his selections are questionable

He is very hard to dislike for sure and I thi k he is a genuine man but you never really know

This season , again, has been very frustrating but the bottom line is , the likes of you and me are still around to bitch with each other when many are no longer around thst would have loved to

Enjoy , before I forget Enjoy the summer and that goes for the rest of my followers

Next season … Wrexham Cardiff Swansea same league
Resurgent Lincoln
Bolton wonderers
Wolves Old tome massive club
West Ham cheeky thieving cockney bustards in “ free” ground
And yo yo diverse Burnley

Gonna be helluva season

Many supporters prefer to watch from their armchair or down the pub....manymof the keyboard warriors tend to do so

As I said in my post there is a lit of input into thenplayers on thenpitch not just that of the manager/coach.....its not about favourites,
We are all entitled to opinions and as long as I have been watching us fans have had opinions in individual players who the manager continously picked despite the experts in the stands callimg them out as useless, Brian Attley,John Mahoney,Ray Kennedy,Gary Richards, and more recently Naughton,Fulton,Jack Cork,Leroy Fer.

Cullen has started just 6 games under Matos ( 7 if you imclude his firdt game angainst Derby for which I believe Joey and Leon selected the side).....only the second where he has played a full 90.

Yes he comes on the bench but often contributes with a goal.
Fans have to accept the pros know best.....
Any plumbers, builders, sparks etc on here ?
Do your diy.customers know better?

Cullen is a decent enough football player, he just doesn't have a position.
He isn't a striker, he isn't a dogged midfield player, he doesn't have the pace or skill to play wide and ge us certainly no defender. His best option is as a number 10,

...and yet despite all those shortcomings he was our leading goalscorer last season on 11 goals...

He's definitely a Curate's Egg of a footballer...

Six of those goals came in one eight game spell between 24/11/24 & 26/12/24. A purple patch. Never before seen and never since repeated.

Either side of it saw three goals in fifteen games, and three goals in twenty three games. Much more his normal contribution. This year it's five goals in thirty eight appearances.

More of a Kinder Egg of a footballer.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

we know he is not a player you rate but in fairness henis this seasins second highest scorer albeit with only 5 goals but from less appaearances and minutes than othersnin the squad, his goals often either a viatl equaliser or winner.

He is an average championship player but does contribute.....as often the case we fans cant see what managers and coaches see.

Interestingly anither player who has been the subject of fans derision is Idah whi himself is on 4 goals despite having made less than 30 appearances, had he been fukky fit and playing I wonder how many he might have scored

Apparently Idah had a fractured foot shortly after joining us then had accommodation issues. He was staying in a hotel then a couple of airs before recently setting in a house and he has been injured. We really don't know what happens in a players life outside of what we see and hear.
