I can feel the cold draft of wind as I walk up the ramp to the bank now.......oh hang on I"ll shut the door.

| Was it better back then ? on 11:33 - Nov 4 by Dr_Winston | Got to be honest, the older I get the less I want my life to revolve around football. I'm quite happy to be able to.do.other things when we're away and have missed more home league games in the last two or three seasons than I did for about 15/20 years beforehand because other stuff came up. |
For 10 years, roughly 80-90, I onlyu missed one home game , I was too ill. It was Spurs and we won 2-1. Back then it was ALL about football but I'm in a similar place to you. The only reason I go to every home game and several away games is because my son wants to so we go together. This weekend we're off to watch Roma v Sassuolo. I don't love football like I used to, there are far more important things. What I want to do more of, is travel. All that said, yes it was better back then, probably because I was young and had few responsibiities beyond having fun. Meeting mates in the pub from age 16, waiting in the pub for the sporting post man, getting drunk then a taxi home but stopping off at our local for "one more". They were good times. The football was our world back then. An evening game under the lights did have a special atmosphere.

| Was it better back then ? on 13:40 - Nov 5 by swan65split | My son in law is a fine day biker, has had 2 Bandits one was pinched, I think he has one now, but Ive heard through the grapevine he is looking for a new bike. When i had the 90 i told my missis they were so easy to ride, she had a go, the only time ive seen one do a wheely!! her face was a picture, luckily she kept it upright on landing! |
I threw the towel in when a certain age approached and to handle the bikes was scary . My Fazer and Bandit were and are machines my joy , both great machines but my fear of trying to navigate the chaos on our roads these days , I gave up trying to stay safe riding . A car has got airbags , roll bars and reinforced body design in the event of an accident . On a motorbike in a RTA there is only one casualty to suffer sadly .

Went to the No10 as a 16 year old before the games in Toshack's reign with my old next door neighbour who was a year older, met one of his old school friends who played senior league football so joined his team, so only had a couple seasons or so going to watch the Swans regularly , I was always playing football after that. When I stopped playing and my the kids were older, the new stadium was built and we started as a family having season tickets. As for the waiting for taxi's from St Mary's rank in the late 70s and early 80s after the pubs had closed on a Saturday night I often gave up and legged it home to the top end of Trebeoth or was it the bottom end of Clase, either way the climb up Llangyfelach Road was a pain and a number of window sills found me having a dunken kip at times. A pre match pint in the Seabreeze (2 pints of 1664 and pissed) The smell of pipes and tobacco around the ground The sway of the North bank and the crush against the barriers when we scored (which wasn't very often in the mid to late eighties). Sneaking in at half time when you were skint Watching the goalie putting snow on his kicks, losing the ball in the floodlights it went that high. No diving and rolling around Proper tackles and barges being legal and part of the game Post match pint in the Garibaldi Onto a nightclub, Marthas or Ritzy but only if you had nice shoes on (didn't check for knives or weapons back then, it was all about your shoes). Finish off with a scrap vs some rugby boys from the valleys Take me back please.....

Going into NB under 16 turnstile when you were 21,22 yrs old. The blokes on the ladders between NB & away end watching the games remember once one of them smacking the legs of cardiff fans trying to kick the metal sheeting off into their gardens. Freezing cold wearing a shirt, trousers & shoes on a friday night game to go into town later on the p1ss. Some cardiff fans jumping into the NB cica 1984 and the rest not following π the look on their faces as the NB turned on them (not mentioned in their fairy tale books π€) 100 of Pompey fans coming disguised as Bognor Regis fans taking the p1ss in the Sandfields. Pasties boiling hot on the outside frozen on the inside. Standing in the NB bog in about 4 inches of P1ss. All the pubs that have now gone π Bottom on the NB flooding during heavy rain. NB Stinking farts and fag burns in the back of your track suit top when Swans scored. Chanting to Mark Aizelwood up in the gantry. The list is endless.....but now all goneπ₯Ή .

Those blokes on ladders, the Davies family, I went on to work with the son years later. His father was a ppstman and years after retiring you'd see him walking around in his blue thermal Royal Mail jacket.

I regularly pop to Tescos in mine the look of horror on.my missus face is magical

| Was it better back then ? on 09:17 - Nov 6 by SullutaCreturned | I only ever wanted to play reserve football so I could make the Swans, I also played on Sundays from 17 until 40. I was 41 when our son was born and now we are both season tickey holders but he doesn't want to play on Saturdays.he'd rather watch and play 7-a-side. It puzzles me, I always wanted to play even if going to the Vetch was the more important, I fitted both in but he can't be bothered with both. |
My daughter wasthe footballer and on the visits to the new stadium before it opened with two seat marking stickers in hand the question to the wife was ask, stickers place toget the two season tickets, the boy then wanted one and a couple of friendly later so did the missus. Daughters passed the first of two u16s Wales trials but although she was told she was accepted they asked her to attend the second a week later in Llandarcy , she snapped her ACL which ended her footie career/ dreams, and then work and the lure of earning money on a Saturday ended their football Saturdays
