Interesting comments by Joe Dunne regards the release of Tom Bender and Bradley Hamilton . If a player is not knocking at the first team door by the end of their youth training at 20 or 21, think again of gaining another.
So far the ones that got away, can only think of John Taylor who came through the ranks only to have a successful career elsewhere, so perhaps it is not so radical has first thought, but now everybody knows where they stand .

Absolutely the right attitude to adopt.

If the manager doesn't feel players of 20 or 21 are good enough for the first team it is a massive gamble to keep them at the club in the hope they develop enough in the next year or two. The money can be better spent elsewhere.

Stating this as his intent also makes it very clear what Joe expects of everyone at the club.

I think it's about time to be honest. We can't afford to pay players that aren't even close to getting in the first team squad. I imagine they'll be a few more having that exact conversation with Joe over the next few months. Perhaps Lawrie Wilson was a one off because most players released by the club seem to drift towards non-league football rather than the Championship.
