Having lost earlier in the season in the FA Youth cup by penalty shoot out, no such disappointment with this Youth Alliance victory by a sudden death penalty against Portsmouth last night. The young U's seemed content to play the long ball until Bonn was carried off with a ankle injury midway through the first half, and knocked the ball around better there after and scored near half time when a long cross was drove home at the far post . However Pompey found themselves taking the lead after a penalty and header from a free kick got them back in the match at the start in the second half. This gave the U's the only choice but to attack, and attack they did and with ten minutes left equalised with a drive from just outside the box after some good approach play. This set up a exciting finish which both sides had several good chances, but were thwart by both keepers. Things looked bleak when the U's miss their first penalty, however two saves, one in sudden death, gave the U's victory in a game which was a credit to both sides, especially in commitment . | |
