I don’t believe in banning it either but as with much tech, I worry about the lack of accountability.

As for AGI I’m no expert but it’s only going to get more powerful. I do question whether overall AI overall will be a good thing.

I think users that are anti child porn would be happy to see measures taken.

It’s stops becoming social media when the algorithm takes over. An individual has little agency these days.

Facebook is much the same but more focussed on advertising and less on 13 year olds in swimwear.

It’s the biggest platform in the world, masquerading as a social media site.

It makes sense to try and block criminal content.

It’s always been a sewer, the last few weeks have plummeted to new depths.

They were two separate points - I should have been clearer.

I think it’s more a knee jerk reaction to the recent trend of sexualising young girls by under a picture of a child asking the question ‘show this photo in a clear bikini’.

This is a bad thing isn’t it?

Another current fad is asking Grok to provide a list of the 10 biggest spreaders of misinformation on X:

Mind you, after Christmas it could be Guinness and Ferrero Rocher....

I'm not sure what that article means for fishing...

Do you think closer alignment with the EU will see 150 million arriving?

The point of contention (for me) is that in nearly 5 decades of membership, the times we have been ruled against are comparatively small.

British boats lost out on quota but gained fristion free access to an huge market right on out doorstep.

And are the fishermen better off now?

Small quota improvements have been more than swallowed up by increased trade barriers for many,

Is trade better now?

Which national policies did the EU stop from enacting in the approaching 50 years of membership?

Of course reducing GDP isn’t a good thing, but neither is rising GDP with widening wealth inequality.

Which examples of us being subservient to the EU for decades were you particularly concerned about? If the EU didn’t pay us much attention, why need to get out.

GDP isn’t a great measure of an individuals life experience. Yes, the headline figures look good for the States but it tempered by (compared to us) their higher crime rates, income inequality, poor overall health outcomes including higher infant mortality, vast amounts of people in jail, poor workers rights etc.

I agree with you the world is changing but, for me, isolating ourselves is not the answer. The other option is going to the states with a begging bowl and all that entails.

For a start :

Our voice would be amplified significantly with more global leverage in trade, security, and diplomacy.

We’d have a larger economic clout through being part of a significantly larger trading bloc.

Collective security support.

We’d have increased leverage with the US being able to influence policy with the EU.

Just to be clear, I don’t want to rejoin as that ship (and its terms) has sailed. I’ll continue to point out the issues it has presents.

Trump does what he likes.

I’d feel far safer as part of a larger support network.

We’d be far less irrelevant if we were still part of the EU.

It just seems sensible to me.

We need to maintain room for discourse for long term unemployed, mental health (particularly for 18-25 year olds), SEN spending, NHS reform and housing to name but a few.

The ratio of headlines of small boats to these and others doesn’t seem commensurate to me.

But if we blocked all immigration and replaced it with the needed increased birth rate we’d still be in the same position.

It’s ping to take more than just sorting immigration out.
