Criminal damage? The Government routinely destroys these boats. Endangering life of a rescue worker in a life jacket who he told to get off the boat onto the boat tied up next to it.
I wonder if the police have caught the 10 migrants who did a runner? |

Hard work and sensible planning, he and his girlfriend rented one room for five years and saved like stink, he also made some good money buying and selling stuff, he used help to buy Isas etc. and put a £40,000 deposit together principally by saving one salary. |

Gordon Brown screwed up a number of things, his wreckless expansion of in work benefits was predictably pounced on by big business, pay people peanuts and let the state pick it up. It's still happening now. |

When I was 24 I was renting a room with no savings, 30 years later I own a home
together with pension and cash savings.
I am infinitely richer than I was at 24.
My son is 28, he has a house with a mortgage, pension and cash savings albeit smaller in size than my own.
In 30 years time if he keeps working he will be in a similar position to me, probably better if he inherits anything.
The argument that older people tend to have more wealth misses the point.
The issue is that there are too many unemployed youngsters, this Government is not helping by taxing jobs etc. and the housing supply has been strangled by Governments of all types over the last 40 years. |

Probably because there is a narrative in some media outlets that all old people are rich bar stewards and that all young people are all hard done by.
Polarised arguments don't get us anywhere, neither our media or our politicians are invested in presenting us with a full set of facts.
When tte Government takes legal action to prevent data being released by one of its own agencies we are never going to have open debates that people trust.

Agree, I remember speaking to a senior civil servant who was proud of her fast track process for staff. From around 80 applicants 6 were selected for development each year and given interesting and challenging roles with a view to being able to become senior civil servants.
I asked her what happens to the other 74, she paused and said they go back to work. She realised she had a great process to disappoint people. We redesigned the scheme to be ' Development for All ' where there was a range of opportunities like job swaps, qualifications, mentoring etc. that anyone could participate in on an ongoing basis, with the support of someone who was not their line manager to aid their development.
If football academies are going to reject 99 percent of participants it makes sense to support everyone on the basis that 99 percent aren't going to be footballers. |

It was fine until we started living longer and the post war babies started to retire, all predictable, lack of strategy got us here and lack of guts will prolong the issues we have with the welfare bill. [Post edited 23 Sep 14:18]

I've paid tax and NI since I was 18, I'll be paying tax until I die, because I've saved into a private pension, it's a fact of life I don't object to that what I do object to is patronising progressive types asking to rebalance the system so those who are capable of working and don't get more.
The morons don't realise that by paying people more in benefits than they can get by working will lead to a distortion of the system where less and less taxpayers fund people who do not contribute at all.

A good point well made, 70 percent of OAPs pay income tax. They are still contributing.

Spot on. There's an enormous and obvious difference between decades of contributions as part of a contract and receiving benefits having contributed nothing. |

Rumours that Burnham is going to hike CGT.
Problem 1per cent of CGT payers account for about 5O percent of CGT paid. These are the guys who can find their way around CGT or defer gains. |
