Good point, all considered. Would have phoned that one in many a season gone by.
Never want to see that kit again. Struggled to make out who was who at times, or was that just me?
Rest up, get some bodies back, and hopefully we get to see a full 90 out of Madsen & Kamara together. That I’m looking forward to seeing. |

On Vale, his tackle and pass started the move for the 3rd and overall could have had 3 assists, setting up Chair & Lloyd 2nd half for genuine chances.
He may not be the quickest or strongest and can blow hot and cold (understandable at 22), but the boy has end product in the final third, could give us 10 assists this season. JS clearly sees that. |

I've always felt his pace is far more noticable (and effective) when he's in full gallop mode over longer distances with grass ahead of him, usually away from home when we’re playing balls into space (see Wrexham away).
Interestingly, those short sharp bursts of acceleration needed to beat a man from a standing start (with more intricacy required), maybe less so and therefore less effective in tight spaces out wide. |

Watched without comms and only half an eye at times, so maybe I missed the worst of it.. but I was mostly encouraged by what I saw.
We showed intent to play forward from the off, dominated most of the game, 38 touches in their box and created enough half-chances. Also tried a few things, Burrell RW clearly didn’t work.
GK error poor and pens were awful, none of those are likely to be our regular takers. Out the cup again, which is frustrating as f*ck sure i too wanted a cup run.
But that was against a team who finished 2pts off automatic promo. If we play like that in the majority of games we’ll be absolutely fine.
Enjoy the ride. The season isn’t over after one cup defeat. |

That Dundee Utd squad has more Aussies & Kiwis than Scots.
Good move for the lad. Wouldn't have got the loan if we didn't give him those minutes last season, but he deserved his spot with some good (although understandably inconsistent) performances. |

1st teamers stepped it up a level 2nd half as you'd hope.
Refreshing to see a CM in Isak doing things other than playing it sideways and back, agree on him potentially being ahead of Morgan, now needs to show that in a competitive match.
Poku lively. Madsen, Chair & Vale showed class.
In the past, ball going back to the keeper would likely bring a groan. With Charles, I’m excited to see what attack he’ll launch with that quarterback passing. |

In a weird way the Champ feels a bit more like the PL I grew up watching the mid 90s. Similar rough edges: some decent teams, a few mavericks, the occasional total shitshow, players you’ve never heard of, and games that still feel capable of going completely sideways.
It’s still got a bit of that imperfection & volatility the PL has slowly priced out of itself.
Before the PL money went mad, talent was more spread across Europe. English clubs could still go abroad and get slapped. Now any half-decent prospect gets hoovered up by a bottom-half PL club on a 7yr deal to fill their squad, even bottom 3 teams are stacked with internationals while Europe gets sucked dry. |

Agree they need to be getting decent loans to at least show they’re capable, but at the same time these L1/L2 clubs aren’t charity cases handing out games for free unless there’s something in it for them, i.e. a decent player that makes them better.
Then who’s to say they’re L1/L2 standard straight out the gates at 18, based on a few DS games on a glorified park pitch against other 18yr olds? Or is it more a case of “trust me bro, this kid’s mustard”..
Then there’s the argument if they cant show it at NLS level, they’ll probably struggle higher up. Or they excel through the levels like Dieng, who showed he was somewhere near 1st team standard by loan number five. |

Tuck seems surprising on the face of it considering the little we've seen he looked decent, and we're hardly stacked in that CM department.
It's likely they see Isak (slightly younger, same position with higher pedigree) as a better contender for that deeper lying ball player. They've had a year to compare them and with Tuck hardly pulling up trees in NLS, it seems the decision probably made itself. |

Agree.
And with all being said, if bids in the £5-7m range come in for either Kolli, Kone or Burrell (more the higher end for the last 2), they should be seriously considered with a decent sell-on % slapped on.
I think one of the three will leave, because that’s the game we’re in. |

This can't be a genuine argument. The same 21-year-old showing signs of being good in Holland or France is exactly the type we’d be at the back of the queue trying to bid on, only with less affiliation to us and more adaptation risk. |

I really don't get why we're not backing him more. Are people actually expecting a kid who’s been with us since 8 to come flying out the Dev Squad and transition seamlessly into the first team like some secret Kevin Gallen regen?
He’d have been swept up Sterling / Elliot style long before now. Most his peers are Nat League South at best.
Like Sheff Weds, Pompey etc. are some kind of Sunday league outfit where anybody with boots could bag.. take a look at those finishes + Plymouth away etc last season.
I could see someone punting £4m+ on that potential. |

We had a week to prepare on the training ground, a 3.5 hour coach journey up there, an overnight stay to cement the gameplan, a morning walk to reflect on shape and approach.. Ipswich will probably start fast, so don’t get caught cold.
After 75 seconds they're clean through. After 3 minutes, 1-0.
FFS play long, play boring early doors, play gritty, just f*ing play something other than bend over and hand them the lube.
With all the energy and emotion in the ground today, I’d have loved to see us get to 20 mins level, let the initial surge die down, tension creeps in, then grow into it. That would be fun.
But no, we're done after 9 mins. Thanks again, see you all next season. |
