Last season we were down to bare essentials with Kone being the only fit striker at ine stage and Kolli pretty much the last option. We’ve even tried Smyth and Dembele as strikers in the past and that wasn’t a success. So I think it was a temporary emergency solution. |

Why do people keep saying “but Kolli did not get the same opportunities others did”? Clearly JS has explained that: he is not training hard enough. He literally said “why do you think I gave 17 year old Scarlett a chance? He showed in training he deserved it”. |

Its also naive to think that there is necessarily a direct relationship between supporting the team/club and effort in training. Could even be a PR stunt to gain public sympathy if you are really sceptical, although personally I don't think that is the case..
I just don't believe the club will come out publicly at a fan's forum (ceo, manager and captain all) sketching a situation that is not (partly, at least) true. That will ruin our image and lure for future players immensely.
I believe the opposite is true, we are projecting an image where effort, input and team interest are vital and if you buy into that, we will help you realise your personal ambitions. |

Kone was playing friendlies while Kolli was not because at that stage the plan was to get Kolli out on loan. That has been decided and agreed upon by both parties end of last season. It was (imho) in the interest of the team and the player(s) committed to staying (Kone) and needing the pre-season (Kone) to play, rather than give someone minutes with the knowledge he is leaving anyway at the cost of a committed player. Which Kolli then decided he didn't want to do after all.
I think the answers re Kolli (direct or indirectly) are pretty clear and I think there can be little doubt about the situation and how it can be rectified. Someone else put it nicely: Kolli probably a distraction from where the club and player's group are heading towards. I'm pretty sure none of this will come as a surprise to Kolli and what was said last night, has already been said to him by at least JS and Jimmy Dunne, probably more than once.
Let us also not forget, that while Kolli has shown good finishing and impact as a sub, whenever he has been given opportunities to start games, he has done little to prove he should be a regular starter and at times has been quite disappointing, frankly. I can't say what exactly his wish to play more entailed, but if it was to be a regular starter, at that point the club did the right thing to say "you're not there yet, lets find a loan first". I think the hectic nature of the championship is part of its appeal and while 24 teams are a lot, the issue is compounded by the constant international breaks. The stop-start-stop-start all the time and cramming fixtures into the periods in-between the breaks are killing.
I would actually have preferred that the championship just continues through those breaks, but that would put too many teams (ourselves included) at a disadvantage and place even more pressure on squad depth. The annoying thing about those breaks is when you see someone away for 2 weeks and just watching his country from the stands anyway. What's the point?
I think they should propose something where teams who want to and are not affected much by international breaks, could still play games in that period, but that would cause other sorts of issues.
Even reducing to 22 teams would mean 4 less games = 4 fewer 3-game weeks. Big improvement already. Perhaps we should start there. |

Two points on Vale. I'll be the first to admit he is not playing at the level het did last year, but I have a strong suspicion he is one of the few outfielders currently being able to go a full 90, hence him staying on. And then, might just be a case of trying to get him to play through the bad patch, because he will then be a good asset to the team. Some players need to get out of the firing line when in poor form, others need minutes to ride it out. I think Vale is of the 2nd type, because I don't see him dropping his head or giving up. |

I think we are in a great position if we can make changes like these and get away with the win. Would have liked to have some breathing space at the end so we could have had a look at Obikwu, but the Chair sub was needed. We’re building Lamptey and Cirkin up, have fresh Poku/Smyth/Kone for Boro, etc. Lots of positives. |

Looks like teams have picked up on the idea of shooting from distance. Sooner or later you get it right.
Should have been cruising at 3 or 4 up and could have had a decent look at Obikwu with that. JS won't be a happy man. |

OK, I think I have every single transfer in the original post. Let me know if I missed anything.
Just looking at the numbers, we must have brought the wage bill down considerably. Could easily be about 100K a week nett result? Cook alone reportedly a big chunk of that.
Also very pleased that the players we have left are all players we think will play a part or can develop. We got rid of a lot of dead wood and players who have been hanging around for too long without breaking through.
And the outgoing loans all of the type we were hoping for those players.
Best of all, the incomings all look great and have made positive starts. None of those "need to settle" types, they all just hit the ground running. Maybe says a lot about the current squad as well.
On paper, this is for me the best transfer window in a very long time. Well done, QPR. |

My concern with Obikwu is that we have no idea if he is any good at all. Even if he comes back tomorrow fully fit, he might end up a complete dud.
Now I have to admit our recruitment team seems to have really stepped up their game and I would like to think they have spotted potential here, but you can never say for sure until someone actually shows his worth.
So I am a little worried about the striker options at the moment, but not to the point where I think we definitely need enforcements. I am going to stay positive and believe Kolli is still in the picture also, which will settle my nerves.
I don't know what the loan deal with Bennie is like, but perhaps we have the option to recall him in January. Strategy could be to just make it to then and see where we are at, then enforce or recall Bennie, who is getting plenty game time now. |

I'm guessing the thinking is with so many players having proven to be useful cover out of position (Dunne at RB, Mbengue at CB, Adamson & Lamptey at LB etc), we effectively have 8 defenders (if Morrisson leaves) and that should be enough, at least to see us through to January at which time we'll see where we are at. Well, we have 7 at the moment with Kemper out.
With Akindileni as cover in case things go badly wrong. And Esquerdina officially still here too.
I would also have liked to see Smith stay and be given some minutes, but it is what it is. He has not even featured in the matchday squad in the MLS yet, so not a positive start over there.
I like Morrisson and think he was good earlier for us, but can't see him get much game time if we manage reasonable levels of availibity this season. So sensible move for all involved. [Post edited 31 Aug 7:00]
