We are not safe!!!
at 07:05 22 Apr 2024

Plymouth, Blackburn and Birmingham all on better goal difference as it stands, so they need to finish BELOW us.

The best situation for us is Huddersfield beats Birmingham this weekend and, to add an extra measure, WBA beating Sheffield Wednesday. Even then we're not out of the woods yet, unless we get something from the Leeds game. Then we are 100% safe.

Blackburn could easily lose both remaining games (Coventry and Leicester), so there is an escape option also.

I don't see Plymouth getting nothing from Milwall away and Hull home, so I would guess they would still pick up some points.

Beat Leeds and we're safe, no matter what. Simple as that.

agree with Atnti. I played rugby at a high level and never ever did me or my team ever want to not win, not matter the circumstances or situations. Not caring about a result was unheard of. I hated losing and I am sure many footballers do too.

Nigerian goalie linked
at 16:14 18 Apr 2024

Rumours being raised again, it is reported in South Africa that he has refused to sign a new contract with Chippa United and will leave as a free agent.

27 years old and already a Nigerian international, could be a good signing. But we're not the only ones being linked with him.

Also ... means we have to find a decent back-up goalie every other year when he is away on Nations Cup duty.

Sincs vs Brobbey
at 05:38 16 Apr 2024

I was watching Ajax this weekend and it struck me how much Sincs reminds me of Brian Brobbey. Both young "raw talents" that are extremely strong and fast, physical, often fouled and gets nothing from the referees and then both go into "the world is against me" mode. Similar style of play. Both playing for clubs in crisis, although QPR always in some sort of crisis while Ajax, by their standards, probably going through the biggest crisis in their history. Topped off with a record 6-0 loss last weekend against big rivals Feyenoord.

Except. Brobbey has scored 19 so far this season.

(Ajax got kicked out of the cup by an amateur team earlier this season, first time in their history. A very QPR thing to do)

Hmmm. Watching this, actually, I realise Sincs is nothing like Brobbey.

It says "100" for Rotherham ending in position 24, so yes, you are missing something

I am really getting annoyed with Sincs. Apart from being totally ineffective and wasting everything, his reaction to anything that goes against him is childish and won’t win him any favors with referees. That’s some MC should address.

Begovic
at 10:18 2 Apr 2024

I'm quite happy with having Begovic. Within our means and for the task that lay ahead at the time, he was a very solid signing. He is always available for selection, doesn't make glaring blunders and certainly looks committed to the cause. And he does have very good games as well, most notably the away win at Boro. But yesterday I also thought he did very well.

Would definitely prefer him over a Rob Green type, e.g.

He probably won't get another deal, unless he is prepared to fulfil a mentor role for a younger prospect which we are surely trying to find.

Thoughts on Swansea team selection.
at 09:43 2 Apr 2024

I would like to see Hodge in a striker role. His running and I think his finishing could be very useful there and offer better returns that what we are currently getting. He's short yes, but its not like (our forwards) are currently free scoring from aerial positions.

Pity he hesitated a bit on that chance he got just before Chair missed. Maybe still missing that striker's instinct.

If he wasn't a loan player, certainly worth the experiment.

Its not impossible, but I find it hard to believe that last season we had a clutch of players "out injured" at any given time and now we're at the end of a tough season and basically have a fully fit squad.

Certainly highlights the prospect of some players just refusing to play or, more likely, faking injuries for one reason or the other.

If I'm not mistaken, JCS has just equalled his most games in a single season ever. Very happy with that, as I think he is an excellent player and alongside Cook, one of our best CB pairings in ages.

What we need now is a 6-point penalty just to keep things interesting.

I've heard people say as much as 55 points were needed for survival which I knew at the time was ridiculous. All the bottom teams were then winning, but with many to play one another and form sure to dip at some point, I never believed the mark would be that high.

Win the next two and Plymouth/Wednesday effective have to win everything while we lose everything, so we could really make it easy for ourselves and do just that.

If I recall, his signing was criticised by some on this forum at the time because "it's not what the club should be doing".

But I thought it was exactly what was needed, a seasoned pro who's been around for a while and who gets on with the job. Someone who would put in a shift. Shudder to think what could have been if we went for a Sean Goss type academy kid instead.

Its all about getting the balance right. Agreed, we can't just do signing like this, but these are needed and then pick the rough diamonds to learn and grow around the seasoned core.

We Just Dont Get Enough From Our Strikers
at 17:35 1 Apr 2024

I wonder ... if Dunne turned out such a revelation at RB, perhaps another clever switch could work too: I'd have a go with Hodge up front. Probably won't provide much aerial threat, but its not like we are scoring via that route anyway. But I've liked him every time I've seen him and he might just be a better finisher than anyone else we've got.
