On talk sport in a few minutes talking about his new book

Poll: Attention man united fans - who do you want to win the premier league?

Tells a story about getting sent off for Dale a few matches before Xmas.
Says he got sent off deliberately as he fancied a break over Xmas.
Ernie Cooksey was sent off in the same game.

So 10p to whoever can identify which match this was?

Wycombe away.

And it was Warren Goodhind.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

99% sure this was the game against Wycombe where he pulled Sergio Torres' (I think) hair.

Cooksey wasn't sent off though, it was Warren Goodhind and we lost 3-0.

Wish I'd chosen a different username...

I was there.

I thought he was wrong about Cooksey.

Jack Lester used to get sent off near Xmas rime as well, he ran a pub and it was his busiest time

He did say that it was against Wycombe but then mentioned Ernie in the same breath. Didn’t Ernie get sent off at Notts County?

Yes, at Notts County in the previous season, along with Gareth Griffiths.

My dad worked for the club at the time and I was only 12/13. After the game, we went to interview Parkin and he was just pissing himself about it, I think he got 2 bookings in a couple of minutes? maybe wrong though, I also think it was his last of second to last game for us? What a player, I remember Parkin saying he could pick a fight in a room full off brushes.
Another Holty memory, was Swansea away during the time they were chasing him, we were stood pitch side as they arrived and he turned to us and said ‘i f***ing hate Wales’ and just started laughing with Kenny Jackett just stood there behind us, dont think they bid for him again .
Him and Lambert were/will be the best strike partnership we’ve ever had, without them we’d have been a non league team and probably not be about now

This is the One, I've waited for

The old maxim has it that you should "never go back"

Holty is one of the very few players who've returned to us after a career at the top end of the pyramid and actually enhanced their status

In fact, can't think of anyone else who's done that?

Poll: What are you planning to do v Newport

He was a massive influence on his return, carrying a little more timber but the memory of him holding the ball up and bringing others into play was a joy to watch, was it against Huddersfield(?) he had a run down the wing of the main stand like the holty of old.
A brilliant player and a top top chap too,had the pleasure of meeting him a few times away from football,an old school "proper" footballer

Think that was a match over Xmas - I remember going to two games in 1 day. Notts county was 0 0 draw and I went to watch west brom or Birmingham the same day

It must have been because Ernie appealed his red card and was available for the cuptie at Charlton.

Monday 3rd January 2005

Although he had his red card rescinded (a word never used in any other context), he was sent-off 'for real' against Lincoln a few weeks later for making a great save on the goal-line.

Worth reliving all of these memories.

That afternoon at Leyton Orient in 2005 is still one of my best memories as a Dale fan.
