What do we do Saturdays now? 20:35 - Mar 13 with 2048 viewsgerry_us

Looks like gardening weather and smartening up the deck.
However, can't think what will replace MFB's Happy League report late on Saturday evening.

No "Hundred" at Chelmsford except for women.

Few Essex players involved in games elsewhere. Similarly, Division One and T20 champions yet no Essex England Test, ODI or T20 representatives despite Chris Silverwoods involvement at international level. I find that odd.

We have never been one of the "favoured" counties despite some magnificent Essex and England players...Bailey, Cook, Gooch, Lever, Fletcher etc. Still we will remain unfashionable when it comes to the MCC.

Now been advised no pub, no cinema, no theatre, no restaurants.

I'm going to have the cleanest house, the tidiest garden and most immaculate allotment where Mrs Noah has already been "digging for victory" for three years anticipating Brexit (but not this). Have two freezers full of last year's produce, so we can hibernate on turnips and swedes, but I won't go vegan whilst I can trap the odd rodent. But what will I do Sunday's?

Could be worse. I could now be stuck in a locked down Jordan had I not been turned back at Heathrow, whilst a pal of mine has just had his expensive cruise holiday suspended, hence forced back into Sydney Harbour, and must now face 14 days on-board quarantine stuck in his cabin simply to get back into Australia, then has no flights until repatriation is sorted.

Puts football into perspective....

It certainly does Noah. Elements of wartime are all around us now aren't they.
Here there is to be a fine after a new law is introduced at midday for anyone going out other than for four reasons - one of which is to buy food of course.
It seems to be designed to limit the severity rather than to prevent the virus reaching us all. Sadly, so far the virus is winning the league, not Swindon.

Same here in Spain partly because British tourists, who now thankfully have almost all gone back, flouted the State of Alarm.
We are on day 4 of 15 of isolation but we are being prepared for a further period so my guess we will have a month.
Silver lining is not spending any money apart from essential needs such as red wine, the freezer will be empty, already jobs been done already which should have been done year's ago and when we can socialise again with friends it will be a whole new experience!

Hopefully the first thing to be cancelled this summer will be the horrible new cricket 100 tournament. It's not cricket as I know it!

No cricket until 28th May at the earliest. Likely to be a season that will only have the T20 and the f______ hundred. So no proper cricket being played this summer then. Though I suppose in the circumstances the main thing is to make enough money so counties don't go to the wall.

I take it that you are also not keen on the 100 then?
Too many mercenaries in the teams for my liking. Just let's have the 20/29 county matches which will at least put money into each individual county, not just a big pot from the 100's that ECB arbitrarily decide the split.

I reckon that all that might survive the 2020 county season will be one of T20 or 50 over competition plus the Hundred, but both possibly delayed until August & September. Too many county championship games will be lost to prevent catch up and cash flow will be king. County cricket isn't flush with money, unlike Premier League soccer.

In an ideal world, they'll scrap the T20 and Hundred to free up time to play the actual game of cricket. Unfortunately money is king so they won't.

Will Essex be the last ever County Champions?

Blimey Fruitbat; what have you heard...apocalypse?
Last ever champions is a bit negative, we can win it again..and again.

I am not keen on the 100 because we have the T20 already, but mainly because how can you have an affiliation with any of the teams when living in Essex, with hardly any of their players involved. When watching any sport I have to want any team or person to win. With this competition who really cares who wins. Just give us the money.

I'm a cynic, I think the ECB would take losing a few counties (those without Test grounds) to free the summer up for some more pointless six hitting practice. There's probably some one coming up with multiple new even shorter formats now.

One ball per side, nearest middle stump wins.

Poll: Safe standing at football; yes, know or don't know?

Might take forever if asked to bowl at one stump and hit it. I suppose that today, Hawkeye might judge nearest. I recall what was possibly the first ever T20 "bowl out". It was Surrey v Middlesex at the Oval in about 2004.

Nobody could hit the stumps! The quicks were bowling full tilt, line and length, but above off stump. The spinners were trying to spin it. Both teams had bowled about nine balls before anybody had the brain to gently lob it up and hit the stumps.
