Just watched a Genesis concert from 1980 at the Lyceum. Bloody enjoyed it. I know the whole QPR Phil thing, but I like him. Gets too much grief from idiots in bands like Oashit.
I really don't like Oasis, but that's patent nonsense.
There are 21 year olds I work with who would pay like a grand if Oasis reformed tomorrow
STUIDLY QUOTED A POST ABOUT OASIS. MY REPLY IS ABOUT PHIL COLLINS.
Spent several hours interviewing him in 2018 for the sleevenotes to a box set. I really liked him, and it made me think very differently about his music. He's so insecure you wouldn't believe it.
A mate of mine was at Manchester met uni when Oasis were still a local band. He wrote music reviews for the student rag. He is a beatles fanatic and immediately loved Oasis. At the end of a pub gig he had a pint with Noel and asked how he wrote his songs. He pulled out the Beatles songbook from a bag and said he just got this out and mucked about with the chord progressions and a song would come to him. Winning formula.
Two relevant points on this thread... Firstly, no one should ever be subjected to genesis and their self indulgent twaddle, EVER. I remember just as the punk explosion happened one of my friends bringing in a lamb lies down on Broadway album and expecting everyone to enjoy it. It’s nonsense, and should be confined to dark dungeons, way beyond any bodies reach. Secondly, I put the oasis show on at the water rat for Alan McGee as a favour I paid them £100 and 12 cans of Heineken. Alan was insistent that they were goiNg to be massive. I had about 35 paying punters and oasis did indeed go on to be being massive. What do I know, eh??
I knew about him becoming a Spurs fan but I can't remember the how, when or why?
Superb shirt. Around the time Phil Collins was wearing QPR tops was around 1976 to 78. One reason it was a great shirt the 76 season and we were for a period after promotion in 73 to around 78 were trendy. Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea during this period were under performing, Chelsea were also 2nd division. I just reckoned he liked the shirt. Collins was also at the Barbara Speke's stage shool in the area in the 60s so may have developed a liking for the Rsss.

Just watching some stuff about Genesis, he also wore what looks very much a QPR top at their Knebworth gig in 1978.
Sings about homeless people, but didn't want to pay a little bit more tax to help said homeless people. Met his sister in Hillingdon Hospital a couple of times when visiting my Dad in 2017. Her Husband was on the same ward. She was really nice. Didn't seem to have much time for him though. Maybe gets asked a lot about him I suppose.
for all the 'groovy kind of love' and 'sussidio' paint it by number pop crap.
Phil drummed this... more funk than a shaolin monk.
didn't mind his 'yacht rock ' phase either..
and this track which me and jo will be getting married to in 4 weeks.

Follow You Follow Me is my wife’s favourite song. I’ve seen Steve Hackett a few times, the first half is a bit self indulgent but after the interval they do a Genesis album he was involved in cover to cover - absolutely brilliant!
A terrible artist. Genesis pretentious hippy rubbish - I didn't man the punk barricades to believe that Genesis were anything other than prog dross. and as for his solo stuff, terrible covers of Motown tunes, plus he's a snake.

Whether you love him, hate him, despise, or even merely nonplussed about him the fella is a talent. Brand X not my cup of tea but man he can play the drums. Could never really take to early Genesis with either PG or PC on vocals, most of prog is lost on me but there is no denying talent.

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater here!
Phil's pumped out plenty of tat over the years, agreed, but not all of it, and Selling England by the Pound is bloody great including the last 4 minutes of The Cinema Show which are downright sublime.
Qpr or not. I do loathe him As a singer...poor mans peter gabriel As a songwriter...listen to the song another day in paradise...biggest hypocrisy ever and the list goes on As a drummer...I wonder how such talented musicians that were in genesis ever did hire him. There must be some daring photos or such material about them. Only explanation. Just listen to the famous drum break in in the air tonight. Jebus. Over produced shxt with added echo that makes my ears bleed everytime i hear it. World would have been a bit better place without him doing any music. And i dont like the oasis either. They are even worse and can stuff their man city.
