I watched him once for Zagreb and he was very good, played at the base of midfield dictating like Grimes does but without Grimes defensive nous and tenacity. When the game turned against them late on he was hooked, bit harsh as he had little support around him. Was on a plane to join with Wales u21s a couple of hours later.
Played further forward at Arsenal, more a creative 8/10. Technically gifted. |

I think we have more money than some of our luddites and gloom merchants like to make us think. Boringly, predictably tediously. Ad infinitum.
We are an ambitious Club and some of us fans want us to throw off the shackles and go for it (with ongoing prudent financial stewardship).
I believe the Grimes monies are earmarked for plenty of exciting new blood. Some already secured, some even more exciting in the pipeline.

So many positions need strengthening that would be up there with the Clucas and Bony 2nd time round in the Swansea City daftest transfers of all time.

Woodman when he signed a three year contract notionally wiped a few million off the fee for Grimes. If I was a club manager I would see that act as unhelpful. Players who sign long term deals with clubs who do not intend playing them are not to be relied upon.
Robbie Burton is another linked. A Wales u21 midfied player schooled at Arsenal. Took the pliunge to Croati and Zagrebcand signed a 5 year deal. After a year he wants to come home which shows a lack of grit. Bright Osaye Sammuel the same. Taken out of their comfort zonecand keen to come home after only a few months. Steve Caulker on the other hand was signing for Fenerbahce and speaking Turjkish to the press. Older and wiser. |  |

I hope not. It would be akin to robbery. As Resolven says Woodman signed a long term contract with Newcastle which weakens our negotiating position. There are many better keepers available for 4 million. |  |

Know little about the Chelsea lads. David Roberts the only one I've seen play a bit. Long-legged, looks a tidy defender. Hopefully they're all mates and can help each other settle in to life out west.
Petrie and Veevers are probably the most highly-rated of the incoming new scholars, both of them moving move due to the level of competition in their positions rather than ability/potential afaik. Petrie has a pro contract already agreed, as Harry Jones and Adrian Akande did last summer when we brought them in. Probably a few others do as well, it's part of the package we're offering to get more quality through the doors.
No great expectations or pressure on these lads, though. Free transfers at 16 don't yield many guaranteed stars. Focus is on constructing a team to support our top prospects as much as bringing in the best individuals available, and as I'm sure I've said before things look pretty successful on that front. | | | |
