I know there's a few of us on here. Would be interesting to know what you're up to (as opposed to this just being a lot of youtube vids of good guitarists).
What guitars do you have? What style do you play? How do you practice?

Anyone on here gone fully digital and ditched pedals? I've been playing with the spark app and it's fantastic.
I can't ditch pedals I love them and have just put together my third pedal board all Laney Black Country Customs pedals (the Monolith Is a beast as Is the Tony Iommi Boost pedal) I can and do have hours of fun with them and that's what's important, I play them through a Laney 1X12 cab and a Laney head. All the pedals are made In the UK.
I recently bought a HIWATT Hi-5 Head to run through my Fender 1 X 12 Tweed Deluxe cab, I now own 8 amplifiers and 12 Guitars, I'm smashing my retirement fund and doing the thing I always wanted to do. Most of the amps are valve although I do have a Fender GTX50.

Anyone know much about amps? I need some advice and am currently playing through my Boss Katana 50. At my last band practice I played through a Marshall which blew me away in the sound difference as it was a valve amp. Now I'm looking at valve amps. Has anyone had issues with servicing them etc? Are they a pain to maintain. Any advice appreciated.

A Marshall valve amp is the classic rock sound and shouldn’t be too difficult to maintain. Just replace the valves very .occasionally. I knew a jazz guitarist who used a Marshall valve and it was great for jazz. The only downside is they weigh a lot more

My valve amps Fender Blues Junior, Marshall DSL 20 and Vox AC15. The Vox and the Marshall both have 'standby' switches which Is a godsend. With valve amps you simply must let the valves warm up before using the amp. I've had them for Years and never had any of them serviced as I dont gig, I just play at home, I bought those particular amps because of their history. The Vox AC15 has a stunning In built pedal switchable tremolo, listen to Creedence Clearwater Revival the Intro to Midnight Special and that's It. The Fender Blues Junior has developed an annoying but only minor background whine, ordinarily I would have taken It Into PMT Oxford but of course they've gone bust.
The sound of a valve amp breaking up Is the sound.
Go on Youtube.

I mentioned in the last page that I was consolidating down my three electric guitars into one (the GORGEOUS Sire T7 tele). I now have that, a bass (also Sire) and my new acoustic.
The Harley Benton Nashville Nylon.
Took me ages to pick this. Other brands do this sort of guitar - a thin, electric guitar style but with nylon strings. Ibanez and Cordoba most famously.
The thing is they all seem to fk about when it comes to fret markers. I just want dots on 3, 5, 7, 9 and 12. None of this 'tree of life' shit or just dots on the side of the neck. Bollocks to that.
So I went with the cheap option and I love it. It's so playable and you don't get the rattle and noise of a steel string. I can do sweep arpeggios on it, so it's basically like playing a wide electric neck. It's also quiet so I can noodle while watching a film.
Probably needs a little set up but it's playable out of the box.

I too wanted to sell a few gittars but so few music shops now. Those that exist will only sell on commission and I can't be arsed to sell privately and having people comng round to Chateau Despair to try out the instruments. Chandler's at Kew were good but now shut down.

Aah, thanks - I was told they'd packed up. I know a few good pubs down there. They sold a paisley telecaster for me years ago. It sold after a few days.

Lovely old shop/store, they sold my 1958 tweed Fender Princeton amp for me, took a while to sell but I got a cheque from them for £1120.00 In the end. You could wander around In the basement of the store where they kept vintage amps, I'd be In there for bloody ages, bliss for me all the music history you'd ever want. These shops are a godsend, Family shop, hands on and personal, It's a shame If they've gone, I heard they had.

For a short while there were two music shops in Kew Parade - the other one smaller with more bog-standard instruments. Still love it there. A good Fullers pub, the Tap on the Line, and a Gails. What's not to like ? Edit - and a cracking butcher's and Kew Gardens 5 minutes away.

I know that selling guitars privately seems like a ballache of a chore but now that I've done it a few times, it's not too bad. And you can post via Parcelforce at the Post Office for like £15. So it's all pretty doable. I sold mine all through eBay. They don't have selling fees anymore so it's not bad. And actually a couple of times the buyer has been local enough to pick up and they've been absolutely sound.

Service intervals can be very different for a valve amp that sits in one place at home and one that is dragged round pubs for gigging.
A service can just mean a robust clean, its not always replace the valves. Scratchy pots can be dealt with at home without many problems. Just be mindful to ground the amp and discharge all the capacitors if you are taking the chassis out of the cabinet. You can get a nasty bang from some components even if its not plugged in!

I've bought and sold on Reverb, never had a problem. But Royal Mail? They can do one!
Sold a pair of Genelec studio monitors to a guy in Scotland. They dropped the box in transit and damaged one of the speakers.
It took nearly a year to get anything out of them. All I can say is, take lots of photos of how you pack stuff before you send it.
Turns out they opened my parcel and repacked it for me, which is one of the reasons the damage was so bad. -- It cost a bomb to ship, and I paid the extra for "insurance"

I've gone bloody daft, not completely digital I've still got my tube amps but the amp below I've got connected to My 11 Inch Ipad and the Fender tone App, I can change amps and pedals in seconds using the Ipad touch screen. It's great. I have to say I'm well impressed (and skint). Bluetooth,

Anyone know this young fella-me-lad ? Think I'll sell my last three guitars.
I knew of him, he's excellent. In one of his videos, he's playing within a massive, outdoor art installation somewhere in Italy.
Aha, found it!
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Matteo is amazing but I sort of hate his style of playing. When I was a kid learning to play I had real guitar heroes who not only played great stuff but it was accessible, you could actually learn it even if it was hard, and it was cool. It existed in songs that I liked.
Matteo and everyone else are just there on YouTube creating an arms race of guitar technique. If you're 13 now and that's the standard, it has to be demoralising. The first time I saw Hendrix on TV I was blown away but I recognised it all as normal guitar technique.
These c**ts are doing tapping on acoustic guitars. You ever tried to tap on an acoustic guitar? It sounds like shit. But their videos are edited and the sound is tweaked. Good luck ever getting close to it. And what's the end goal? You can't use this shit in a band.
It's like how you used to get those football trick guys who could do 200 keepie-uppies off their scrotum and have to ball come to a perfect stop on their chin or whatever but they never played actual football because the skills didn't translate.
I respect it but it's not helping guitar playing in the long run.
