I see Portugal are challenging the Ronaldo red card .
He could miss the first two games in the World Cup .
I’m sure Infantino will sort that out for them .
The poster boy missing the first couple of games won’t go down well .

I was at the QPR women’s game (kicked off same time as Ireland) and had been checking the score. I got the game up on my phone to watch the last few minutes. Fella in front of me was confused as to why I started cheering when the winner went in.

Troy Parrott must be feeling on top of the world. What a man.

TBH the only surprise is they haven't found a way for "Inter Miami" to take part.

Magical last few minutes and yes the time wasting from a world class player Szoboszlai was laughable he really took the pi*s and got no yellow .
Not sure I would want to have to make my way through their Ultras after that loss but fair play to Ireland they really answered the bell this week.
QPR fans have to check out the celebration when Parrot took his shirt off and sprinted towards the bench with everybody chasing him.Jimmy Dunne nearly took out an Irish coach who was standing in disbelief its just superb
Have to avoid Italy or Poland now but happy to be alive

Hi Pat, I’m delighted for all the Irish Rs on here. I didn’t see the match as I was working, but I was keeping up with the score. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it was 2-3 to Ireland.
I saw the video of the last couple of minutes from the RTE commentary. Fantastic scenes.

I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that they can join England in the World Cup.

What I found interesting was that Dunne was sitting beside Hallgrímsson on the bench, chatting one-on-one with him, and that the chat was clearly two-way.

Unless I am mistaken, first QPR player to also manage an international team at the same time. No wonder he's been a bit slow getting up and down the line.

"Who would bet against Ireland in a two leg play-off after their two victories this week? "

The problem with that is that they're not two legs. I've no idea how they will determine which countries are at home in the semi final & finals, but I assume that it will be based on rank rather than an open draw.

I've copied this from the FIFA website -

"How qualifying works

The first round will follow a familiar format, with 12 groups of four or five teams, and the group winners securing World Cup slots.

The continent's four remaining berths will then be settled in a 16-team UEFA play-off competition involving the 12 group runners-up and four best-ranked UEFA Nations League section winners who did not finish in the top two of their World Cup qualifying groups.

The 16 teams will be drawn into four play-off paths, each featuring four teams, with single-leg semi-finals and finals taking place in March 2026."

Thanks Terry for the heads up on this.

Hopefully the momentum gained from the two fantastic performances this week will help boost Ireland in their play-off games. Also it provides great motivation for Jimmy Dunne to perform well for us to ensure he is involved in March and picked in the World Cup Finals squad if they get through.

And both made the schoolboy error of not covering their mouths when they were talking. Lip reading experts have revealed Jimmy was booking his next dental appointment.

Don Givens - Ireland Under-21 boss, and also stints as caretaker boss with the seniors.

I thought that. Luckily, US customs is a piece of pis at the moment so should be able to just breeze straight through.

Getting into the US might be a breeze but there is games in Mexico and Canada as well and those might be more complicated .
I assume England will be based in the US probably NY and hopefully ROI should they make it.
The Irish fan base is massive over here as well as the Polish and Mexico so hopefully they take that into consideration if we make it

I play under the tricolour on dartscounter, playing darts via online video

Played a Hungarian lad in a best of 5, came back from 0-2 down to win 3-2

Before I could add anything in the chat he just replied "*sigh* had quite enough of that"

As great a servant as he's been to the national team, I think Portugal are now somewhat hamstrung by Ronaldo. They have a decent squad and really don't need him to start games. He'd be an excellent option off the bench particularly in tight knock-out games that look like going to extra time and penalties. If his ban is upheld it could actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the team.

P.S. Congrats to the Irish on making the play offs. Well deserved after getting the 2 wins they needed from 2 tough fixtures. Hopefully they can kick on and book a spot in Trumptown.

As a Wales fan, Ireland would be my fourth choice - too much of a local derby.

I get that, Pedro.

That's part of my logic too.

But Ireland are not good (apart from the local derby thing).
You can get Albania. That's who I'd be afraid of.

The draw for the playoffs has been made. If I'm reading it correctly this is how it works:
Wales or Bosnia will play Italy or Northern Ireland
Ukraine or Sweden will play Poland or Albania
Slovakia or Kosovo will play Turkey or Romania
Czechia or Ireland will play Denmark or N Macedonia

Think that's a decent draw for Ireland, at least they'll have home advantage if they get past the Czechs.

Football’s most inconvenient awaydays: Rumarn can look forward to a trip to New Caledonia followed, if he’s lucky, by one to DR Congo. At least he’s got some experience of Old Caledonia.

Statistically the worst possible draw for them.
Nothing to lose for them though: start Smyth and go for broke.
