For me this makes Southampton nailed on certs for relegation. AN absolutely crass decision, which I reckon will bite them hard. Adkins for me is the best young English manager around at the moment and will manage England within the next decade, for me he is the English Arsene Wenger, before Wenger went mad. Some lucky team is going to pick this guy up. Wouldn't be surprised if Leeds sack Warnock in the next few days in order to try and get Adkins in, especially as they have just been taken over and there is some new money available. |
I hope Leeds don;t get him. I think they have enough problems at the moment without making managerial changes. More importantly, Adkins is a manager the players seemed to like so hopefully now they;ll go into freefall. However, they did spend fortunes in the summer so there is some culpability there (unless he wasn;t making the signings). |  |

It does seem strange at this particular point when Southampton have started to pick up points.
Even stranger is that Southampton have had the same owners (the Liebherr family) since 2009, so it's not a case of Adkins not being 'their man'.
Perhaps it was getting beaten 1-5 at home against Chelsea a few weeks ago. Or perhaps they wanted a bit more glamour. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Sounds like the new bloke is the next Mark Hughes, got sacked by Espanyol in November after they only had 9 points from 13 games. Since his sacking they now have 18 points from 19 games. | |
