All this talk of minnows beating whales, have we all forgotten U's victory against mighty Leeds in 71.
Leeds did NOT turn up with half their youth team and fielded the following
Leeds United: Sprake; Reaney, Cooper; Bates, Charlton, Hunter; Lorimer, Clarke, Jones, Giles, Madeley. Unused Sub: Belfitt.
Most had international experience and Leeds were the TOP club when they visited Layer Road.
Happy to say I was present on the day, and unlike now we walked back into the town and chatted to lots of Leeds fans and exchanged scarfs. No fighting or abuse in those days. |  | | |

It is not forgotten Jerry. I to was luckily present, and has a primary schoolboy was naive enough to think at the time the U’s could defeat anyone who turned up ! Has I have said before having already seen the U’s previously, but it was the first time I recognised most of the opposition.

The roar when Garwood equalised against Derby was heard on the High Street. The Jobserve must be easily twice as far, so no chance of that these days, but you're right, the post-penalty celebrations were quite special. | |

Sent the list to a friend of mine who bravely omitted to seeing two of these results , which must be unusual.
He also saw U’s final league game at Layer Road when we got relegated to the Conference .
