High flying Colchester United entertain the Grecians in a League Two encounter this weekend at the Fortress aka the Weston Homes Community Stadium (WHCS).
A much changed team tasted a narrow defeat at the Checkatrade Stadium Crawley in the newly named Checkatrade Trophy. The U’s still have to play Charlton and Southampton U23 development squads on a league basis so all is not yet lost as to whether the U’s progress or not!
JM has also made two forays into the loan market this week with pacy winger Tarique Fosu signed from Reading and Finnish midfielder Glen Kamara from Arsenal. Kamara is away on international duty this weekend and will join up with the squad next week. I expect Fosu to go straight into the team on Saturday.
The U’s also have two other players on International duty; Craig Slater and James Bransgrove, both with Scotland U21’s.
Sadly, the injury list continues to grow with Garvan, Loft, Kent, Dunne, Briggs and Senior all out for varying lengths of time.
Exeter City also have a large injury list and have drafted in two loanees of their own; Luke Croll and Jack Stacey from Crystal Palace and Reading respectively who will, I am sure, go straight into the Grecian’s team.
JM will have instilled into his players the need to avoid any complacency with Paul Tisdale’s Exeter City in town. It is early days in the league and although we are well placed, there can be no question of taking points for granted. All teams are capable of achieving results in this league and JM must guard against the U’s taking their feet off the pedal.
The Grecians must therefore be despatched back to Devon with no points from this encounter.
So changes to be made to bring the team a little closer to what JM would imagine is his best XI in a 4,2,3,1 formation:

A decent crowd can be expected, all hoping for the encouraging start to the season to continue. It is accepted that an average of two points per game will ultimately bring promotion and indeed 92 points should achieve just that. Early days I know but points gained now are seldom wasted come May.

Hugely disappointing result against a team that started the day second bottom, 3 points lost for sure. Unfortunately this display had horrible similarities to many of those last season - fairly decent going forward but very wobbly at the back. Let's face it, Exeter could and should have scored 3 in the first half alone! Again it looks as if our defence is going to cost us a ton of points again this season.
