Kyle Naughton 07:35 - Jul 22 with 2798 viewssw02sea

I said it when for some completely unknown reason, he was given a years contract when we didn’t actually have a manager in situ.
Why was he given this contract?
Who sanctioned it?
Great servant bla dee blah, but where was the thinking wasting valuable wages on a 35 yr old player?
I was totally baffled at the time, even more so now

First of all he's 34 not 35 there are players older playing at the top level. Secondly if the management believed that we had a better player in his position he wouldn't play.

Strange to pick him out after last night. Did no better or worse than anyone else and was playing out of position due to injury no one else who can play there.
He’s a more than adequate squad player who will barely play in championship but will cover for injuries and suspensions without causing a fuss over not playing.

Getting pelters across the board here is Kyle, needs to be a squad player and back up to the 3 centre halves for me.....could do a back up job in centre mid if needed.

Not a wing back but nothing else to select from presently to be fair on Duff.

He has featured a lot in pre season, must be in Duff’s plans.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Poll: What will happen with Morgan Whittaker

A few thoughts

The 2 loan players, are they premier league players or U23 players? Unless they are first team players, they are not Premier league yet.

Naughton was selected and did his best out of position, the real problem isn't Naughton, it's not having a better option in that position right now. I do agree about his contract though, I didn't expect to see him play for us again.

The goal came partly from us fannying around at the back, from what I've read. Maybe we need to remember that for 2 seasons now the players have been coached a certain way and they won't just change to what Duff wants in a couple of weeks, some things will be done automatically until it's coached out of them. Duff needs months not a few weeks before we can properly judge our prgress, or lack of it possibly, who knows.

On the owners and the possibility that we could have had 2 more players in than we have now (yes another thread but I'll make the point) then they need to understand that any delay could mean losing a target. Being sustainably run is fine but when you know for certain there is money coming in then you need to act quickly or lose out, as it seems we may have done with at least one player going to Hull instead.

Naughton has always taken grief from a certain element of our fans despite IMO being one of our more dependable and adaptable players over a number of years.

There comes a time for every player though and while I’d be happy to see him in the squad every game, I wouldn’t want him starting too often this season. Especially not at wing back.

No issues with a one year contract extension though. He’s absolutely fine as a squad player.

It looked like complacency/rustiness from Grimes and Cabango panicking receiving a ball he wasn’t expecting under pressure. Clearly Fisher should be saving it.

I’m not sure it should take long to adapt? They’ve only been playing Martins very specialist way for two years, they’ve spent their careers defending more normally.

IMO.
We all have them.
An extremely limited footballer well past his best given another pension top up.
Didn’t seem one to attract many suitors in the game .

Yes now, but over his time with us he’s been great value.

Didn’t you get upset about people criticising Whittaker the other day?

Great value?
Hardly.
Me upset about the comments of others .?
No.
What angers me are people hiding behind their keyboards .

Whittaker has moved on and so should we. Many cannot .

Opinion really is just that . No more no less .

Something along the lines of ‘aren’t we all getting behind the lads, seems not in Morgans case’

Nonsense of course, we’re all entitled to our opinions on players. Some back them up with reasoning.

It was mentioned that he offered experience in a young squad.
Decent utility player and, by all accounts, sets an good example training.

it won't happen overnight, we have new players to bed in too.

We wouldnt be offering contract to players who do not offer anything.
Having someone who has played 170 odd premier league games and close to 250 in the championship provides a huge amount of experience.
I don't know how he integrates into the set up, but I'd imagine his experience and being at the club so long he plays an important part off the pitch too.

Fed up of people slagging off players who have consistently performed for us in the top flight and championship, never complained when he was benched etc.

Kyle Naughton on 23:35 - Jul 22 with 1459 viewslifelong

A certain poster will select at least 3 of our players and no matter how they play they will be relentlessly criticised.
It’s already started with two weeks to go before our first game, the 3 players being Naughton, Grimes and Fisher, there could be more as the season progresses.
It has been similar for the past 15 seasons.
Our first poor run will see the manager get it in the neck..it’s going to be an interesting season.

He may have accepted modest terms. He has become a multimillionaire at Swansea on £35k a week in the PL days. Settled in the area with a nice set up. He can be back up and allows Lissah and Brandon to go on loan. Routledge did the same making appearances now and again as required.

Naughton would also be a good example of a class player from the big English urban centres settling in Swansea. Quit few of the academy boys have done the same. He will have empathy with them and can help

Wise sage since Toshack era
