The “New Investors” 12:37 - Aug 10 with 4591 viewssw02sea

What a difference these “new investors” have made. When was the last time our transfer business was like this one, (with these owners) ever?
Shareholders who are now making the right grownup footballing decisions, that have always been missing to move our club forwards.
Time will obviously tell, but pre new investor time, it’s been a bit like watching “The Truman show”
where you can’t quite believe what your watching in front of you, is true.
Where in the past it’s been all smoke & mirrors, now all of a sudden we have a manager who has the backing of The Board !
Would you Adam & Eve it ??
This new Infrastructure, including the management side of things,in my humble opinion, is starting to resemble a club (dare I say it) with Premiership aspirations.
We done to all concerned

I have always been saying they are decent people and decent owners.

Fake pseudo analysts have grouped all US owners together and come up with wrong conclusions and toxic narratives have built up in predominately socialist south Wales.

One particular useless small investor whinged for 6-7 years threatened legal action. A fake narrative emerged on forums supporting their action.

"good honest innocent working people being crushed by asset stripping, hedge funding Yankee money grabbing lawyers siphoning money out of the club and looking for a quick flip financial killing."

Idiots crated the narrative through supporting fan forums. Only an oddball would contest this narrative. He would be accused of being a corrupt insider and friend of the sell outs. A local Welsh lackey dancing to the US banjo. Best to keep quiet.

This was an intoxicating narrative. "Dodgy Yankee fraudsters and the Welsh lackey sellout mates".

All nonsense of course. The Chief was a main proponent of this guff and when his argument was seen to make no sense he vanished.

Wise sage since Toshack era

Agree about the new investors. They seem to have blown the cobwebs away from the other American owners. Everything seems more fluid now and bringing in Watson was a masterstroke. Only one downside for me is communication with the fans, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Let's be honest, people are excited because we seem to be spending a bit of money. It remains to be seen whether it's going to be effective spending or indeed money that we can afford to spend at all.

We're one iffy window away from everyone turning on them anyway so perhaps it's a bit too soon to be getting excited.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I'm more excited because IMO they seem to be rectifying issues that we have had for a couple of years. We could see the problems, lack of pace, left side of the pitch (although this still needs work) and expenditure too high. If you add in the Obafemi money, compensation for the management team and the couple of other players we have sold possibly our net spend will not be too great and this is without a major departure. Throw in if we lose someone late in the window we seem to have cover without panicking. But as you say time will tell.

Which is why I keep saying I'll hold judgement until around 10 games in. When the transfer window is closed and we can see our squad for season (certainly until January) then we have a better idea of what we are about and we'll have had 10 games to judge progress on the playing side too.

Us football fans do like to jump in with kneejerk reactions though.

If you ask the previous two managers then they probably wouldn't have considered them to be "issues". Both had wide players available to them and both opted not to. We had the squad that we had because that's what Cooper and Martin wanted.

FWIW I'm equally delighted that we're abandoning that style of play and looking to get things moving with pace again, but I am wary of the mood swings. People were high fiving themselves at the start of July before beginning the whinge again when the player whose name I can't immediately recall went to Birmingham.

Think it’s best to reserve judgement until the transfer window closes. Things will look a lot less attractive if we lose Piroe, Grimes as well as Ntcham without replacing them. This is a very real possibility imo. Agree that Watson certainly seems to be living up to the billing he was given by so many itk

I think if Piroe goes his replacements are already here. The same with Ntcham and Grimes by the weekend. If they don't leave we have a very, very strong squad and the owners have rolled the dice.

We’ve signed three on loan if Patino is included.
And signed three permanents.

I would say in financial terms we’ve spent the Obafemi money and saved on his salary plus that of Ntcham who was the highest paid player. That’s a considerable amount. Possibly dipped in to the Latibeaudiere money as well.

I’m uncertain if the new investment has had any bearing on this transfer window.

I’m talking playing staff only.

The arrival of Watson is healthy though.

Last summer we signed 3 and loaned 4. 7 plus 2 loans the summer before. This summer we've signed 4 and look to be loaning 4 so far. Where's the big difference people are on about? New car smell sending a few loopy, or just wishful thinking?

Agree if there are no movements we would have a powerful squad in the making but it’s a big IF based on the history of the current owners.

I don’t see anyone capable of scoring 20 goals per season a la Piroe in our current squad

We haven’t got a goalscoring midfielder a la Ntcham either

We could probably cover Grimes moving on with Allen, Fulton or possibly Patino. Both Allen & Fulton are injury prone though. If we keep Grimes & Piroe my expectations would be raised significantly

I think there is a difference this year. Patino, Humphrey’s, Ashby and Rushworth are top end loans, a significant uplift on OKO-Flex, Stevens and Cundle and Sorrinola. They will have cost significantly more too.

We’ve outlaid £5.1m on Yates and Kuhlarehvic and I’d imagine around £500k for Key.

We’ve not really done that for a number of years without selling a key asset.

We’ve also done in well in advance if the window closing, which is rare for us. What the investment has done is give us some breathing space to make better, more strategic decisions .

We signed three players by early July in each of the last three summers. Compare 2022's Wood (10th June), Darling (18th June) and Allen (8th July) to 2023's Key (4th July), Ginnelly (3rd July) and Yates (12th July).

As for whether we've done our work "well in advance of the window closing" that remains to be seen. Still badly missing a left wing back, and there's always room for some late drama with exits and replacement. The loanees didn't start arriving until the week leading in to opening day and were thrust straight into the team with no preseason. Manager still says he wants 2 or 3 more. Feels like every other summer to me, lots of optimism about how great these new lads will be (Harry Darling our saviour 12 months ago, bless), and lots of work yet to be done.

Impossible to judge this seasons loans compared to last seasons when we are only 1 league game in! Hopefully they are a big improvement.

5.1M outlay on Yates and the Ukrainian......lets pretend that's what they both cost combined. If we spent that money on the both then the club and those sanctioning that amount needs a good shake.
Troyed paid 400k for Mykola 2 years ago, a loan to Hibs and they make a 500% profit on him......Joseph was factored into the move for Yates, how much is Joseph in that transaction 500k-1M.

The investment gives us breathing space on not needing to sell and possibly getting a new contract for Piroe although Ntcham leaving helps massively.
Taking in account Joseph going, we have since January taken in between 7-8M.

Lets not kid ourselves that the owners have become some kind of saviours, I wil say that they have been much more proactive and the window has been very good thus far with another 2/3 expected to come in.

I agree with much of that, but on the face of it Ian is right…those loans seem much higher end. All 4 of this seasons loans are expected to be real high flyers and with top teams also. Cundle can compare slightly, but nowhere near the hype overall.
Whether they perform for us is another matter

On paper they seem better than last years crop most certainly, I would certainly like to see how they perform before I really compare though.

It's funny how these loans are costing us quite a bit when all previous loans fees were minimal or nothing at all.
Funny how things change when it suits.

Let's make judgements on signings and Watson further down the line. It doesn't looking like we are spending investment money, just using the money from previous sales.

A positive transfer window to date.

The high end loans comment from Ian is spot on.
They will be more expensive of course they will.

Look at the calibre of clubs they have come from

Rushworth_Brighton
Ashby_Newcastle
Pattino_ Arsenal
Humphreys - Chelsea

All players who are expected to do very well.

There will have been plenty of competition from other clubs.

Compare that to

Oko Flex
Cundle
Sorrinola.

No disrespect intended but you can't.

The club deserves credit for what they are trying to do if it fails so be it there are no guarantees in football.
