I feel he will go, which is a big shame. He has his strengths and faults, but is stronger than most in our squad overall - so would be good to keep him. But if a new contract to stay comes at a high cost I can understand the dallying. JD offers more than just his position, he’s gives us strength at corners, gives us goals and brings team spirit to the dressing room with his banter. Feels like we’ll find out soon enough and move on, just as we always do.

Agreed. We’ll find out soon enough but if Dunne wants a move then not much the club can do about it. Can’t see him going to a Premier League team but Sheffield Utd looks a good fit for him, especially if they don’t go up. He’s stayed in the team as he’s a good pro and hasn’t downed tools plus there hasn’t been any competition for his place.

No one gets a season ticket because of one player. Im pretty sure comms haven't got a scooby about contract negotiations so they just put content out there to justify their jobs. Nothing wrong in that either, that's what they are paid to do by the club. I dont feel like im getting manipulated by the club. Its filler.

It's rare to get someone as versatile and valuable as Dunne has been for us these last 18 months. Brilliant defender and a huge threat up front as well now. If we're keeping Cook and even Colback who are already well into there 30's, then I fail to see the caution in giving Dunne a 4 year contract that would keep him at the club until he's only 31!!! Both Cook (I think) and Colback were older than this when we signed them.
Also, it means we can demand a decent fee if anyone comes after him in the next couple of years or so. It's no brainer for me.

The club shouldn't give him what he wants if he wants to stay at all. The club have a budget, and they must stick to it else we get into a complete mess. If he stays, then fine, if goes it's no big deal as we'll replace him.
It does my head in that some are so worried that he'll leave. Let's not forget he is a ropey centre back who couldn't get in the team, but then moved to right back where he is OK. I'd be more concerned about losing MC, the manager who moved Dunne to RB.

Yeah I get that and that it's annoying for a lot of people. Not for me personally as I quite like good news when things are a bit rubbish or e.g. spread out over close season when I like to hear news rather than all on the same day. I'm talking football here not when someone's trying to cover up their giant mistake.
But personally it seems overkill to get riled about an invented scenario - and I know you said if it's true but I've seen too many ' done deals', 'he's having a medical' and then we end up with Jeff Hendricks to take them serously.
You obviously don't have to apologize though. It's a forum, after all. We're just giving our opinions.

Well if we have to replace him it’ll cost 7 figures , probably. For me, he’s irreplaceable at the back, going forward, in the opposition box, in the dressing room, off the pitch . Don’t underestimate how much someone with his personality and love for the club can mean. And if it’s a true that we’re only arguing over one year, then what’s the point?
