Oh, the excitement... and then the crushing brutality of the Norwich game. Somehow, even as a wide-eyed hopeful 11 year-old, I had a sense that our race was run..

On this day in 1976... on 13:46 - Apr 17 with 2421 views | DWQPR | Five of us went up there including my Mum who only ever went to special matches. Lovely spring day, loads of QPR cars with scarves hanging out the windows on the A11. Six days before my tenth birthday. Was absolutely gutted afterwards. Very quiet drive back. Must have been 15,000 Rangers supporters in Carrow Road that day. I’m not one to hold a grudge but from that day onwards I have hated Norwich and everything to do with them and the colour yellow since. Even that shît song by that shît group Coldplay. That was our one and only chance to be champions and I also believe that we would have had more chance winning the European Cup that than the UEFA Cup the following season.

Sorry! First time I've seen the goals and I couldn't believe how dreadful they were (well, being QPR, maybe I could).

Second goal was his first ever I think. With VAR third was clearly off side. If only. ( careful what you wish for | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I remember sitting in the bath crying my eyes out when I heard the Wolves score, much like when we lost to AEK the following year (which wasn’t very manly for a fully grown up of 15/16!).

I was really moved when the train we were packed in like sardines on, ran alongside the A11 for a while, the number of cars we saw with blue and white scarves trailing out the windows, never forgotten.

Not really as we would’ve still lost the the title on GA instead with a draw.
On this day in 1976... on 20:58 - Apr 17 with 1668 views | qpr_1968 | loads of us travelled up the day before in a car/van convoy from the springbok. a mix of ladbroke grove, shepherds bush, white city and hammersmith chaps. we borrowed an old corsair from a neighbour in sulgrave road. 6 0f us crammed into that old bone shaker....left south africa road at about midday. remember both days being sweltering.... we stopped off in kings lynn where one of the kingham twins lived, got there about 4 pm, peter/trevor layed on a good spread and drinks, there must have been 100 of us there. big field outside the house where we had a 20 aside football match. after a couple of hours on to norwich. we parked in a big car park....found a fair ground and got chatting to the local talent then all headed off to that pub on the bridge. went to a couple of night clubs, which did'nt end up too well, and ended up sleeping in the motor in the car park, with one of us sleeping in the boot. had a breakfast in that cafe on the bridge next morning, back in the pub at 11, and eventually off to the match.....we walked to the ground alongside that river, with van after van pulling up and lads pilling out. stood in that packed corner where they put us, like sardines, two huge fences either side of us, it was roasting.....to the left of us was a contingent qpr fans in the seats. good but nervy atmosphere from us.....and the rest is history.

I also went with my cousin and a load of mates on a coach from either the Springbok or the Smutts with a bunch of herberts from White City and Wormholt, the roads were crammed with blue and white all assuming we were winning the league. At the end of the game I knew, we all knew we'd blown it, one of the saddest days of my life. We didn't even have the energy to have a go at the yokels taunting us at the end. Tragic, still makes me weep to this day.

On this day in 1976... on 20:31 - Apr 18 with 1109 views | ManinBlack | People seem to forget that Norwich won 2-0 at Anfield a month or so earlier so they did us a favour too. I think in the last 15 matches we got 27 points to Liverpool's 23 and we still didn't win the league. The fact is we left ourselves with too much to do after a disastrous period in December and January. We played 8 matches winning 2, drawing two and losing 4 away games on the bounce. 10 points were dropped so it meant we couldn't really afford any slip ups in the last 15 games. We also have to remember Liverpool super sub David Fairclough coming on for the last 10 minutes and turning draws into wins in the run in. You can hate Norwich for beating us but what about Everton conceding a last minute winner by Fairclough or Man City letting Fairclough score twice in the last 3 minutes at Maine Road? When we lost to Norwich we were hoping City would get something off Liverpool but, like Wolves, they conceded three in the last 20 minutes. I was baffled when our fans cheered City's last gasp winner against us to win the title that day. They did us no favours in the penultimate game of the 75-76 season so we should have got the draw and screwed them up like they did to us. Don't our fans know our history?
