Contracts 00:35 - May 13 with 2703 viewsGVJack

We all know the majority of those who are out of contract next month and will not be staying (with the exception of Darling who could still potentially stay), but who else have we got coming down to 1,2 or 3 year contracts? Does anyone have a list?

I know Fulton will have a year left and is unlikely to either both re-sign (unless on considerably lower terms) or move on, but for anyone else with 1 year remaining I'm assuming we'll be planning to move on so that we don't have another Darling on our hands?

Those on 2 years should also now start to be offered new contracts on better terms for a minimum of 4 years (assuming we want to retain) or again start the process to move on out of the club to maximise return rather than let them run contracts down to a year where we are held over a barrell.

Fulton will see out his contract, no way will another club pay him what he’s on at Swansea. 👍

I wouldn't be surprised to see him be offered a new 1 year contract at a reduced wage if we don't go up next season. At 32 next year he may be looking for 2 years elsewhere.

Contracts ending 30th June 2026, Key, Tymon, ,Sam Parker, Ben Lloyd, Ginnelly, Congreve, Cotterill, Fulton, Tjoe-A-On, Kukharevych and Yates, so only a year left unless others know of extensions options on their contracts.

First four would look to extend contracts, do we wait on Ginnelly to come good, do we cash in on Cotterill and Congreve or look to extend their contracts if loan experience deemed gained to our advantage or sell, Fulton a lower contract extension? As for the last three do we try and get rid or can Sheehan get a tune out of them?

A lot of experience and players seem to be or are leaving this season so a lot of work just to sort out next seasons first eleven, match day squad and first team squad while keeping an eye on future squad quality.

Hope we can start the season off strongly with a settled team that would allow youngsters to be introduced in a stable team to have a positive impact instead of being hung out to dry at their first mistake.

There is a 12 month option on Tymon and Key for sure. But I would like the contract sorted out this summer not enforce 12 month options which always seem to provoke ill feeling. I would imaging Parker and LLoyd will both get a 12 month added particularly if they were to go out on loan. A big call to be made on Congreve and Cotterill who Montague said would be involved with the first team squad pre season. I expect a mutual consent agreement for Ginelly and Tjoe-A-On. Fulton will see out his contract as he will not get the same money elsewhere and really does love it here. Kukharevych and Yates will be sold for whatever we can get.

All purely my opinion.

An opinion I agree with. Maybe give Congreve and Cotterill a chance early and come January make a decision to sell or keep.

Turn Kukarayevic into a centre back preseason - tall , athletic , poacher turned game keeper - he will know the runs attackers make at set pieces etc. job's a good 'un. He will love coming up for attacking corners and free kicks to get on the score sheet during games too. Remember John Charles , he played up front then at centre half .
Tempted to keep Yates , Eustace is no mug and he played him regularly at Derby and he got on the scoresheet . Maybe when first at Swansea he was trying too hard to impress , pressure builds especially on strikers he will be more relaxed with less expectation on him now .

Just get rid of both, neither are good enough. Kukharevych has done nothing for us or in Scotland. Yates is no good for the one up front we play and was average in a team who narrowly avoided relegation. If we are aiming to push on we need better.

Are there any who we know we would definitely like to be here long terms coming down to two years? Thinking Vigaroux and Franco in particular. Would put Cabango in that category too but assume he's on a longer contract having only recently re-signed.

After the Darling episode surely Key and Tymon will be offered longer contracts this summer. They are worth more than a rolling one year deal. It's the only way to improve our squad by having our better players on long term deals. I get you have got to balance the books but look transfer fee we have lost out on Darling.

The person handling contracts this time last year has gone, his approach was terrible. We now have football people running the club, different times.

Agree with that opinion, glad to hear the year option on Key and Tymon and would want to tied both down long terms contract. Both poorly coached as defenders while Sheehan getting the best of their them defensively and in attack both valuable assets.
Tend to agree with SullutaCreturned and yourself on Congreve and Cotterill big call to be made after being out on loan and getting valuable first team football, would like to see more of our youth products integrated into the first team squad especially needed given the number of players leaving the club so maybe they will be needed to be used.

Will be interesting to see how the Darling situation pans out, we need cover anyway in the centre of defence and someone comfortable on both right and left sides of it would be preferred. Both Wood and Darling were needed when signed maybe they took time to gel at the back given the style of play asked of them and mistakes made but we are back in the situation that at least one Centrehalf is desperately needed.

He hardly had a look in last season at Southampton, bar a run of about seven games. I would expect him to feature more next season in the championship. However, they need their manager and coaching set up sorted, Leicester and Southampton fancy Dyche. Their fans want Steve Cooper.

IS Steve Cooper the new Warnock, good at getting teams promoted but no good in the top flight?

The one thing that bothered me with Steve Cooper at the Swans in the end was he went all defensive in his setup and as pressure was applied the clearances became more and more desperate leading to very few controlled clearances to players to relieve that pressure that we buckled with. In contrast in the play off final he went all out attack which played into Brentfords hands, getting that balance right and setting up correctly to exploit the opposition's weaknesses and stifle their strengths. Harder to do in the Premier League. Warnock had more years to get it right but couldn't a bit like Mick Mccarthy, Cooper may get it right in time.

My opinion of the play off final was we didn't go all out attack, we offered nothing which made the final so disappointing.

When you look back now at the play off final, Brentford had Mbeumo and Toney leading the line, Raya in goal, as disappointing as the game was they were far the better team

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Cooper changed the starting line up to include Lowe who hadn't featured a lot in the tail end of that season, wasn't it Cabango mistakes as we push forward leaving our selves short at the back susceptible to the counter attack, none of us expected a lot from the game given our preformance at the end of that season and once Fulton lost his head it was game over.

Strange how we remember things differently. I'm sure Lowe started both semi finals against Barnsley and games prior to that. The overall opinion on the bus coming back was we just didn't push, we were to negative and just didn't give it a go. The game was over after 20 minutes and even when we came out after halftime we still didn't threaten them, long before Fulton got sent off.

We never turned up at that game.

Cooper downed tools as he was off because the board didn't back him.

Our performance was pathetic.

"Cooper downed tools as he was off because the board didn't back him". This is your narrative and is potentially libellous.

If that is the case he was unfit to be employed by Swansea city FC. Like all managers he wanted more. I recall reading he wanted Gyorkeres out and replaced by Keinan Davis.

He was employed by the cub and needed to trust the clubs decisions. A Forest he had players coming in he had no role in picking Jojo Shelvey on £80k a week.

At Wembley he may have thought he was out gunned and played for penalties.

Wise sage since Toshack era

One down after 10 minutes two down after twenty, at what point were we playing for penalties. Clueless again.

Sorry you were right Lowe did start in all the three play off games with both Manning and Roberts starting on the bench in the semi finals with Lowe starting both, Routledge and Cullen each starting in one. Routledge replaced Cullen in the first semi and Connor Roberts replacing Routledge and Korey Smith on for Hourihane in the second game to hold onto the advantage. That wouldn't have been my choice of teams in the semis but results prove me wrong.

As for the final Roberts starting the final instead of Routledge or Cullen who started one of either semi finals.
As you say the game was lost in the first twenty, none of us expected a lot from the final but we left ourselves wide open to their counter attack , Grimes booked on the sixth minute, Cabango's mistake for the penalty and they pressed home that advantage as we were in disarray and shapeless trying to make up for the previous mistake. Yes the game was over long before Fulton's sending off but I personally held onto the slim chance of getting back into the game as we tried to press forward hence Fulton's reckless challenge in their penalty area .
Can't remember if Routledge had got injured in the last semi final but he didn't feature in the final not even on the bench after featuring in both semi's.
I still think we tried to press forward way too early in the final and paid the price instead or keeping things solid, just like we have seen under various other managers, you have to ensure you stay in a game especially against better teams, we didn't in the final all be it against the "better" team.
