It’s a free hit. Give a good account of ourselves there and we’ll go into the Oxford and West Brom games full of confidence. It will be good to see Matos’ football against an opponent who doesn’t try to nullify the game.

We may see some changes for this one, given we’ve got games against two teams around us in the following week.

Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 08:53 - Dec 21 with 3442 viewsRichardO

The free hit was the Man City game in which we stunned them with the movement up top and the support given from players coming from deep, then after the goal we dropped off to defend letting them build and build pressure until we had no outlet or play up top. We have seen so many games that we get ahead and then cannot get the balance between attack and defence right at times going all gun ho forsaking any thought of defence and at others times trying to defend deeply with players who are more attack minded inexperienced defensively who often end up making mistakes.
Coventry is not a free hit there are 3 points on offer that we really could do with, would I settle for one maybe but I want us to compete using the goal scoring prowess of Vipotnik while keeping the defensive part of our game tight, which I think Matos is trying to do. Tymon not making as many runs forward ensuring our defence tries to remain solid and similarly with Galbraith on the right but letting them get forward as and when able and needed, no need for them to go dashing forward especially if defensive cover is not in place.
Coventry will be expected to come at us and holes will appear hopefully to be exploited with quick incisive play

It’s very much a free hit. Anyone even taking a point at Coventry has done better than expected. It’s like a lower mid-table PL team going to to Arsenal or Man City.

If we are competitive and can see more signs of Matos’ stamp on the team, I’ll be reasonably happy. Anything points wise would be a very welcome bonus.

Your last sentence hits the nail on the head .We are not going to beat Cov in a power game they are a big athletic powerful team . We will have to use crisp fast accurate passing in the final third to move them around . I would play Yalcouye behind Vipotnik and bring Galbraith into midfield put Samuels Smith / Parker at right back . Set piece we will have to be switched on as Cov have scored more from corners than any championship team

Which begs the question why do we sign so many physically lacking players
This league is at the very least physical

Plus we have won our last 3 home games. Physicality is vastly overrated by those with a poor understanding of football, our best player is Galbraith.

I always thought that a technically superior player in thought and deed would 99% of the time beat a carthouse ,not saying that Coventry are are bunch of carthouses because they're not, Defensively I thought we did very well against Wrexham ,limiting their chances from set pieces to virtually nothing and a ball will always move quicker than most players .

There endeth the Sermon of the day.

"In a free society, the State is the servant of the people—not the master."

We have strength where it is needed on the pitch and technical ability again where it is needed. Matos is getting the balance right, against Wrexham I felt we were the much better team technically. OHL was singing the virtues of the physical Moore before the game, Cabango had him in his pocket and he didn't get a touch all game. Yes there has to be some physicality which we have but we have some very skilful technical players who can completely bypass tall physical opposition with one pass.

Iam not disputing your last sentence at all . In my previous post I stressed the way to beat Cov was by crisp fast accurate passing . That means we have to get the ball away from our danger zones and attack quickly - the ball will have to be moved at pace .

The ball Galbraith played on Friday from right back to left wing was sublime.

I don't think it is overrated because it is very important especially in the championship which is a physical league . I have just read an overview of Birmingham's match v Sheffield UTD by a reporter , quote " This is a question we keep coming back to. There’s no doubt Blues have some excellent technicians and in Patrick Roberts, Jay Stansfield and Demarai Gray they have attackers who can conjure up moments of magic, but are they actually built to succeed in the Championship?

The answer to that question, based on the evidence of their last two away games, is no.

They don’t have the physicality, power and athleticism that good Championship teams have in abundance. QPR’s XI looked inferior to Blues’ on paper, but they were tough, rugged and aerially dominant to bully their way to three points. Sheffield United have more quality than QPR, but the XI Chris Wilder selected had enough nastiness about it to accommodate quality players like Hamer, Callum O’Hare and Tahith Chong. There isn’t an abundance of leaders inside Blues’ dressing room. Christoph Klarer is the captain and one player who will always show up.

It’s all well and good playing lovely football in the sanctuary of St Andrew’s, where 27,000 people are right behind you, but if you can’t tough it out on the road then you aren’t going to get very far. "

Brum are finding out this league is not the cakewalk league 1 was . The step up in pace and physicality is starting to manifest itself. Cov are without doubt the most physical / athletic side in the division the best way to beat them is not take them on at their own game but play the fast accurate clever passes . Movement off the ball will be key . Treasure possession and don't give it up easily . Take the chance when it comes because there may not be many and defend the box like the Alamo.

Makes sense to me
We won’t be able to compete physically
EOM has some skill but can be easily blown off the ball
As I say , why bring on physically weak players and that’s to suggest some like goofball

Eom’s strength is consistently improving. He worked most of the summer on that as we reported which for me evidences dedication and professionalism. Unlike another player who was constantly being seen drinking vodka and partying.

They’re not which makes it odd to see Franco in such pain after minimal contact
Same applies to Ronald
If he’s not cheating then he has physical impairment as he’s often seen screaming literally
Odd really
So now , it’s wrong suggest we’re not really a physically strong team then ?

Discussing a general football point. Still takes the time to have a pop at one of his targets.

"No player is hated".

Whiterockin is bang on though. A big, dull physical side can be competitive at this level, but it takes more than that to be successful. A team that can play will usually come out on top against a team of cloggers, as we proved on Friday.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
